When people say don’t worry, people do, it’s human nature. A bit like Chamberlains “I have a piece of paper” speech, and the subsequent actions of one Mr Hitler.
I have no axe to grind with anyone but would like to know why we need to go into liquidation and suffer a loss of points in what will already be our toughest and most important season in years.
This division is “where it’s at”; better rugby, more support, slightly more TV coverage, and I assume more potential sponsors.
I would hope that the new directors have produced spreadsheets that compare the difference in income and expenditure between the two divisions.
Ie
Difference in income from higher attendance
Difference in income from more sponsors
Difference in expenditure from less winning pay (initially)
Difference in income from increased merchandise sales
Difference in income from increased match day bar takings.
Taking all these into account would it have been sensible to take on the debt, not get a points deduction then fight to keep in this div?
What I have written may be nonsense and the figures might just not add up, but I would like to know. It would be a good start for a new board to explain these things to the fans. Just saying that it is not in our best interests could mean anything.
And whilst I’ve got my back up, what about the ground development? The wooden stand can’t last much longer. I hope we don’t have someone coming on board who hopes to make a quick buck then disappear.
There, rant over.
I’ll say it again, I have no axe to grind against anyone, but looking at our past it would be nice for a new board to start with some transparency.
