I disagree, last year we finished 5th with a lass who's now in the Sugababes singing and, like him or not, an out an out legend writing it.
The Germans showed us the way to win it. Put a decent song together (albeit with a weak vocal), release it across Europe before the comp (I believe it was number 1 in 20 countries or something daft) and watch the votes roll in.
This year we got a guy who knew how to make cheesy pop hits 25 years ago and failed miserably with his last project (One True Voice anyone?). Enough said really.
It got 10 more points than it deserved and 4 of them were from the only country we share a land border with.
A top class contempary British act with a bit of an edge to them, Muse, Little Boots or Florence and the Machine would walk it.
