Where to buy Rugby League books in Keighley now. : Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:11 am
Reids Bookshop was always the place to visit for Rugby League books in Keighley. But following its closure last Saturday, I have talked to the manager at WH Smith and convinced her that this was the time to fill the void and get rugby league books onto the shop's sports section. As a result she has taken a small number of books to start with and will see how well they sell.
One is called "No Sand Dunes In Featherstone. West Yorkshire Rugby League Memories" and features interviews with over seventy people from the game including players, referees, officials, journalists and supporters.
They include a number with a strong Keighley connection Albert Eyre, Derek Hallas, Fred Halliday, David Ingham, Roger Ingham, Garfield Owen, Brian Smith and Frank Wagstaff.
Also on the shelf now are Maurice Bamford's "Play To Win" his fifty favourite players that includes Chris Brereton, Dave Cholmondely, Don Ellis, Tony Garforth, Dai Jenkins and Ken Loxton all who once played for the club, "Braver Than All The Rest", which Ray French has described as an excellent and moving novel, "Rugby League Review Number 2", "Billy Boston" and another novel "One Autumn" (more details below)".
If they are not on the shelf they must have already been sold so ask Jayne if she can get some more delivered all the way from sunny Shipley.
