Keighley RLFC - Keep The Faith

Dual Registration and Keighley : Sat Oct 31, 2015 12:56 pm
I understand that we are a proud and honest club who would prefer not to rely on players brought to the club through the dual registration system.

We have recently seen some clubs use this to their advantage and some have felt that clubs are unfairly getting an advantage by partnering with Super League clubs.

When the controversial dual registration idea was first introduced, we were one of the last (if not the last) to get involved with this and partnered with Castleford at the time.

Although there were initial complaints regarding dual registration system, it has stayed and continues to be used. I did not agree with it as I saw it to be a danger of us becoming like a reserve team to a Super League team. On the whole, this has not happened with clubs apart from the agreement between Hunslet and Leeds which seems quite bizarre.

Recently we have seen Rochdale partner with Warrington.

Why don't we as a club swallow our pride and play these clubs at their own game by also getting involved with a good Super League team? We saw some good players come to us on loan from teams above us last season who made a great impact.

What is to stop us getting involved too? The bulk of our team will stay the same and things look promising for next season, but if we can get a few promising players like Josh Gudzek from last season, it may be a help?

As supporters, it is easy to claim we have lost to teams due to the impact of their dual registration players, but why don't we get involved ourselves?

I think most Keighley fans would rather boil their own heads than go duel reg.

Fine, but don't start complaining at the end of the season when a team that has used DR beats us to promotion!

No, I'm not a fan of the general idea, don't get me wrong, but just saying, if we handicap ourselves with our honour, don't expect the cheaters to be sympathetic when we fail to go up

We have a good mixture of youth and experience.
With a bit of luck without too many injuries and 50/50 decisions going our way we should be in the mix.
I've never seen a DR player ever look remotely interested in playing for there adopted side especially the named players that are there.
We are doing the right thing.
If one of these teams do get promoted where does that leave them the season after.

This is what I was getting at. I'm not pro-dual registration either, but I was asking whether we should swallow our pride if it was to help us in any way.

Interesting thoughts. I understand what you are saying about the season after if a team does get promoted, but will dual registration have a huge impact on the whole squad? We're not talking about a full squad and we do have plenty of good players at the moment too.

With regards to players not looking interested, people have claimed that clubs have an unfair advantage by having Super League players in their teams. Is what you're saying effectively the opposite to this in that these players do not have an impact on team performance?

I suspect a lot depends on who you get 'offered'. I suspect the younger players, looking to impress the management at their SL club will make a good effort. I suspect some of the more journeymen players 'dropped' to their DR club, may be less enthusiastic about it all
