Under 18's: Keighley Cougar Cubs 30 West Cumbria 36 : Mon Feb 23, 2009 10:33 am
The u18's performance was much inproved from the Friday night defeat to Siddal. Ashley Honeymann could have opened the scoring but was deemed to be intouch. Then West Cumbria went up the other end and took the lead with the opend try. But the convertion was missed, and Callum Hudson took the opportunity to cut the gap by half and kicked a penalty goal to get Keighley off the mark. The game was a tight affair, Sean Kelly made a break up the middle and made a great pass to Jack Cawood, who looked certain to score, but was caught just short of the line. Then going the otherway, one of the Cumbrian lads made a break, but was soon caught closed down by Joe Copperwaite. Then in the final 10 minutes of the 1st half, three tries were scored. First by the visitors, then Joe Copperwaite reacted to a bounce that came from a Hudson kick and dived over. Then on the brink of halftime, West Cumbria scored again, despite the best efforts of Jack Copperwaite to get back.
After the break, Cumbria scored two converted tries, but Keighley fought back, Sean Kelly scored and then Sam Dalby bagged a brace, and with Hudson converting 2 of them, the lead was down to 2 points. But inkeeping with the game, West Cumbria went up the other end and scored. But Keighley looked for a way back and almost got one, when Dalby powered over, but excellent defending prevented him from getting the ball down. Then with less than five minutes to go, Cumbria made the game safe, but there was still time for Keighley score the game final try, when Josh Talyor broke through to score his 1st try of the season and give the score a fair reflection of the game.

The U18's now go on the road for the next couple of weeks, Next sunday 1st march, are away to West Cumbria at Whitehaven, then the following week, Sunday 8th March are at Gateshead Thunder. Their next home game is on Sunday 15th March v Featherstone Lions, Venue TBC. All games Kickoff at 1.30pm.
