Four Cougars named in 'Rugby League World' magazine's Co-operative
Championship One 'Team of the Year'
Keighley Cougars Co-operative Championship One Grand Final winning team
has had four players included in monthly magazine 'Rugby League World's'
Co-operative Championship 'Team of the Year'.
Winger Gavin Duffy and prop Scott Law, who were both included in the
Championship One's mythical All Star team are both selected, while
Cougars skipper and hooker James 'Buster' Feather and 25-try stand off
Jon Presley have also earned a place in the side.
Helen Carter, the Keighley Cougars' General Manager, said: "Besides
being a massive honour for the four players concerned, it's the icing on
the cake for the club after winning the Grand Final against Oldham at
Warrington and being promoted to the Championship for 2010.
"All four players have been important members of a Cougars team that has
not only delivered the kind of results that the club needed in 2009 but
also done it in style by playing an attractive brand of Rugby League".
Speaking on behalf of the players Jon Presley said: "We're delighted for
ourselves, the club and the fans, it reflects well on us all. It's
flattering to think that somebody thinks that you've played well all
year and was sufficiently impressed to include us in their end-of-year
selection.
"It's certainly been my best year as a professional. At the start of the
year our coach Barry Eaton asked us to set two individual targets for
the season. My aims were to score 25 tries and be selected in the 'Team
of the Year'.
"Now I have achieved both of those objectives and I'm made up with that
result."
Cougars' Head Coach Barry Eaton finished second in the magazine's
Championship One 'Coach of the Year' selection just behind Dewsbury
Rams' Warren Jowitt, the same order as in the Co-operative Championship
One awards.
Added Carter: "Warren's team won the league title without losing a game
so it would have been difficult to beat him. Nevertheless we're very
proud of Barry and what he has achieved at this club".
Other Cougar stars to earn nominations for the magazine's Championship
One '[Team of the Year' were Daley Williams (centre), Danny Jones (scrum
half), Andy Shickell (prop), Will Cartledge (Second row forward) and
Carl Hughes (loose forward).
