dual registration con : Thu Nov 26, 2009 1:52 pm
Have just seen on teletext that Batley have signed Alex Brown and 2 others from Huddersfield on dual registration and as expected it favours the super league club to the point of being a waste of time for in this instance Batley. The fact is that Huddersfield can recall the players at 24 hours notice so why this can be deemed as a good deal foq Batley etc is beyond me.

Er? Because all three will be excellent players at Championship level, and without the dual registration ruling a small club like ourselves wouldn't be able to afford to sign them on 'permanent' contracts?
We also have enough quality in the squad to cover them if they do happen to get called back to Huddersfield at short notice, which is unlikely.
Yep. Terrible deal for us.

Are you changing your name to 'Batley and Huddersfield RLFC' then? Perhaps you should, so people know who they're playing! :?
...or, you could call yourselves 'Giant Bulldogs'...

Inspector Clouso sorry I mean Bergerac you are missing the point it was not critical of Batley but the fact clubs outside super league are being used to keep the super league players fit and nothing else. Picture this the training or tactics in a week leading up to a game plans on using the super league players and then the day before the super league club recall the players, this then throws the plan into disarray because simply put they can do. How can this benefit the club outside super league, if you really believe this is a good idea you are somewhat deluded in my view.

I guarantee you this

The first "dual registration" player who signs for Keighley will mean the end of my involvement with the team and probably the game except for the box and the amateur game.

The game I was brought up with is slowly being strangled by soooper doooper league who would rather sign overseas crocks than use their own players.

I'm sorry but even the Cougars signing overseas players is wrong IMO and yes this has been going on ever since I started watching the game and previous to that.

Sadly all this does, is weaken the game so that we are "happy" we gave the Aussies a game for 60 minutes

Sorry but until we stuff the Aussies good and proper then I cannot see how this kind of thing benefits the game in this country at all!!!

Not all of us. We've only signed one overseas player and he's 23 and from Kiwiland. We've just promoted two more youngsters from our academy (to add to the seven we promoted last season). Most of the rest of our overseas players (four of them) are at the end of their contracts in 2010. Our Chairman has specifically said he wants to go British wherever possible and local would be even better. So we aren't all in the business of undermining the British game.

Good for Saints then! it's surely the only way we can keep and improve our game. One of two foreign imports won't hurt, but it's got to be kept in check.

The trouble is with the cost of running a club.
The cost of training young players who may be good enough.

This is going to be the way forward for a lot of clubs.
