OT: Americans = : Sun Dec 06, 2009 10:21 am
Not Rugby related but to change to conversation and pass the days whilst the club does what it has to do, how about a moment to decide do Americans say ""Do as I say not as I do?"

The Americans are protesting and upset about the trial of Amanda Knox
Who knows if she is innocent or guilty, but the main gripe of the Americans is normally Jury members are not only allowed to read press on the case prior to and during the trial but it is almost encouraged in Italy. Yes it could and probably did effect the outcome of the trial. Ok no damming forensic links or motive but it is their legal system. :BOOHOO:

The Americans should be thankful that Italy does not have the death penalty. :BEAT:

The Americans can’t criticise another Countries legal system when they admit to using water boarding as an interrogation technique in there own legal system. :FRUSRATED:

The Americans also protest 26 years is too long for Knox when they want to extradite a Brit with asperger's syndrome and put him inside prison for 60 years for hacking into a computer. :STUPID:

Legal systems across the world are all messed up and I wouldn't trust any court or legislation in any country to give a reasonable sentence, as you show when you compare with the computer hacker.

Personally I think that any country responsible for Guantanamo Bay should keep it's nose out of any debate regarding the administration of justice.

I think all countries (yes, our own too!) are probably guilty of amazing hypocrisy when it suits. It certainly isn't just an american trait.
-'definite' proof of WMD springs to mind.
People in glass houses, and all that...
As for the poor guy with Asperger's, well, apparently our own beloved government could step in and refuse to extradite him. Anyone care to place a bet that they will?

Have I walked into a parallel universe, whats the problem with treating those guilty of trying and suceeding in killing thousands whether it be here or in the usa harshly. In my view Guantamo Bay despite its many faults was nott a bad thing. Whilst I would not fancy being waterboarded etc please remember you will not get confessions that may save lives by being nicey nicey.

That being said those who arenot guilty should be recompenced.

I do not know if enough about aspergers syndrome so not sure whether this means the person knows right from wrong, if they are able to determine this then surely he is in the wrong.

The fact is he allegedly hacked into u s defence system which shows high intelligence and so the crime was comitted against the usa, however due to the fact it was done here makes me think he should be tried here but it does not worry me either way to be honest as long ashe gets fair trial.

To use a Tiger Woods anology a birdie in the hand is better than a one in the George Bush

So in essence, you can knock the s***e out of someone to get a confession, and if after a period of time (say 6 years) they don't crack, then you let them go and give them some compo?

Not at all AJ the innocent ones deserve being compensated, however money would not be enough after what they are said to have been put through really and not sure what would be.

But as I say everyone accepts there is a war going on and what other way than some form of torture will get results, by torture I mean mind games, waterboarding etc, beating someone up is a different matter.

Instead of just thinking about those arrested why do folk not care about the innocents that have been blown up, we are far to soft as it is.

We are in a war.
War is a bloody horrible thing.
There are no rules in war.

Being the good guy, will not let you win the war.

If one side is prepared to do anything to win, then the other side has to do the same.

Innocent people get caught up ion it all the time.

Well said Jim. Far to many liberal softies around in my view I am not right wing or anything like that but how do folk think we got info from the germans etc it was not through playing tiddleywinks.

Re the bloke that got tortured he was not a uk citizen so just because its uncomfortable we now allow him to stay and we pay him, his counrty of origin should do this not us :x
