Drugs in rugby league : Wed Feb 17, 2010 5:27 pm
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_l ... 520770.stm

This is to do with Terry Newton, but again makes me think how stupid those that have been caught and found guilty in the past really are. When will folk understand there is good chance of being caught.

No sympathy for those involved apart from letting down their families they can have little regard for their team mates :SHOOT:

I was speaking to a former professional player at the time of the Hock incident and he said that there would be more high profile players to follow. Unfortunately it would appear that he was right.

Hope that the 2nd sample proves Newton's innocence however it is unlikeley.

RL need to take a stance on this and start to ban people for life. Hudson at Cas sets a bad example for all those that play the game that they can serve a ban and still play SL. Cheats will always be cheats.

According to Paul Cullen and Brian Carney on boots and all last night. Its more a case of those being lucky not being caught.

They made it sound like its happening a lot.

There;s nothing new about drugs in sport its been going on since the 60s.You have only got to walk into your local gym and look at people you had last seen 3 months ago. The obvious signs are there, how much bigger they look yet have less body fat than before.A friend of mine used to play for a certain teams Acadamy side not too far from here, and he said a lot of first team players used to take recreational drugs on a weekend.I also know of Super League player who in his earlier career took time out of the game to take Growth Hormone allegedley.Royston would not let any of the players at Cougars take drugs, you will see this season they will be fitter an faster than ever.Strengh isn;t evereything especially when you are having to pick yourself up off the floor every 2 minutes.Have you ever seen Brendan or Shick fitter? No is the answer. You cannot beat the cheats but as long as our own house is in order then thats good enough for me.When the big man gets tired after 60 mins our young fit racing snakes will take control,as long as the big man hasn;t done too much damage. But dont be alarmed at drugs in sport, its happening..... :x :x :x

This is a general warning to everyone.

Please be very careful what you write. Just putting allegedly in a post does not make your post legal. This site can still be in trouble.

Be careful.

Point taken Jim i should have said fact rather than alegedly. It doesn;t really matter who has done what but people need to realize drugs are widely used in sport. So no more of this Shock-Horror if anybody gets caught.I know a good story about a cyclist,a true story of how he tried to fool the dope test geezers, but thats for another time and not on this board :SUBMISSION:

Read today it was a human growth substance he used, human and Terry Newton in the same sentence seems odd :D

The report also says it is called HGH, which apparently stays in the body only for a short while so it makes me wonder if he used it previously. If as he says he hopes others learn from his mistakes then something good can come out of it.

The fact he knew what he was doing means this was not a mistake but deliberate, I hope he says when he started taking it.

I've heard stories about youth academies in both codes of rugby giving youngsters additional HGH in order to produce bigger players.

It sickens me to be honest because until everyone is tested at regular intervals we don't know whether or not the team at the top of the tree is the most talented or just the one with the best chemist.

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Anon.

Re: Drugs in rugby league : Tue Feb 23, 2010 10:58 am
I think the drug testing agencies believe it is widely used both because it is naturally occuring and it is difficult to test and prove abuse.

They see the Terry Newton case as a breakthrough in a new method of detection and hope it will send out a message to cheats.

It will be interesting to see if any more high level cheats are uncovered.
