Statement from the Club : Tue Mar 02, 2010 5:10 pm
After last weeks confirmation from The Rugby Football League that Keighley Cougars (2010) Ltd had been accepted into the Championship League with a 9 point sporting sanction, the new board of Directors would like to confirm the appointment of Gary Fawcett as Chairman of the newly formed club. One of the provisions of the new club being accepted into the league was that no Director of the previous club would be allowed any involvement in the running of the new club. As a result, Colin Farrar and Neil Spencer have had to step down. In recognition and appreciation for the significant contribution and support from Colin Farrar and Neil Spencer to Keighley Cougars for many years the new board of Directors has invited both Colin and Neil to be made Honorary Life Members. Gary Fawcett said “the club recognizes that Neil and Colin supported the club significantly through times of hardship. We are pleased that they’ve accepted the Honorary Life Membership and we look forward to seeing them at the club over, what promises to be, a very exciting future. It is unfortunate that we had to put the club into administration late last year. We were left with no choice in the matter but life is not about dwelling on problems. Life is about how you deal with those problems and how you grow and develop. The club is very determined to put its mark on rugby league in the years to come. This year will be difficult on the field due to the points deduction but I am sure our players and coach will respond to adversity and perform in a way that will make them proud and the fans proud. This development in the club’s history is a long term development and we are targeting promotion to the Super League in 2014. I encourage all fans, past and present, to come down to Cougar Park and support the club over what promises to be an exciting journey starting with Toulouse, in the Challenge Cup, on Saturday 6th March (kick off is 6pm). The more support we have the easier it will be to realize the vision for the Cougars and Keighley.”
