Is playing well a good thing. : Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:53 am
It has got me wondering.
The chances are we are going down.

Now if we go down fighting to the very end and playing really well.
Will that be a good thing?

All it will show is we have a great coach. It will also show we have very good players.
Now this is where, i think it will be a real problem.

Other teams, i am sure will come in and offer our coach and players the chance to play for another team.

So we could start next season, with a new coach and a few of our better players not at the club.

Good point Jim

The flip side of this would be we get tonked every game from now until the end of the season and fans decide to stay away.

I think we should battle bravely against relegation myself and us fans give the players as much support as possible. Hopefully the players will appreciate the support we give them and stay with us.

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Anon.

Re: Is playing well a good thing. : Thu Apr 15, 2010 11:17 am
I believe we have to give every game our all for the following reasons:
It will show we can cope at this level
The effort will be clear for everyone to see and show we are not a bunch of surrender monkeys
We will attract sponsors
We will attract more fans
We will have potential to attract more players
We will enhance the clubs reputation

It's up to the BOD to sell the vision to the coach and players. If we go down and keep the squad together they will be on regular winning pay. If we regain promotion a couple of astute signings would see us mid table. If we loose players than so be it, it's happened before and I'm sure it will happen again.

The more I think about it the more I believe that this season is vital for our clubs development regardless of whether we stay up. It shows us exactly what we have to do to compete.
I will watch whatever division we are in, and the quality at this level is so much better however, I don't like defeatism whatever its colour.

no-brainer, this!!!
Of course we've got to keep playing right to the end! Relegation isn't a certainty, in fact the way we've been playing it's possible we'll pull off the escape of the year, but even if it were, we still have to try.
If barry can keep the squad together there's a good chance we'd come straight back up, and the crowds aren't going to come and watch a side that aren't trying; and let's face it, all clubs could do witha a bigger gate.
Who would you rather watch, a team of battlers with the crowd behind them all the way, or a group of blokes who don't really care, playing in front of ever-dwindling support in a ground with all the atmosphere of a public library?

I certainly have no intention of sounding patronising, but...

A hard fought relegation battle can be just as exciting to watch as a promotion/championship race. If fans are entertained and the situation remains in doubt, interest in the club and its fate remains, crowds numbers stay up (or increase!!) and should you not manage it, you know how us Brits love a plucky loser!

Stick in there, smaller squads this year mean injuries can play a massive part in the final standings, get some luck and it may be Dews, Haven and Batley that have to worry.

Good Luck from Barrow

What Cougar fan in their right mind would think like this. I suppose it has brought us positive minded folk out of the woodwork though :)

Well said Ave Bulls won, just hope GW is never stood with me if ever theres any trouble he would surrender :HAND:

Another thing is the fact we are closing in on the teams below and we have real chance of actually staying up.

As Mick W says its a no brainer, how can anyone let alone an alleged cougarfan suggest we give up trying to play well in order to keep the coach and players its called PRIDE, you have surpassed yourself this time Jim.

Whats ironic is he is on a fundraising comittee which clearly has to be commended but how does this fit with the suggestion of capitulation :SHOOT:

What were you drinking when you thought it would be a good idea to ask this question? :DRUNK:

Consider the long term implications of the alternative and then realise how daft a question it was. :STUPID:

To be honest I think it was a question posed to cunjure up a bit of debate, not necessarily an opinion.

I did something similar when I put a captaincy thread on after the Batley game.
