Of the people who have been before, where is it best to stay France / Spain in terms of price / quality. Thinking of going in Sept and not sure wether to go via an organised tour or a DIY trip??

Please advise?

I think that decision may already have been made for you to some extent - seem to remember a thread on here a while back saying there was an "RU festival" in Perpignan the same weekend we play, and most hotels were already booked up. If you want to take the camping site option, or stay elsewhere, you may still be in luck.

As for France v Spain - we've only ever stayed in Perpignan. French hotels are pretty cheap in the main and of a decent enough standard. If you're eating out, food is probably a bit cheaper than what you would expect to pay at home, but much better quality IMO, and the drink depends on what you drink. The beer is a bit pricey, even more so with the euro/pound exchange rate. If you're in self-catering, food and wine from the local store is cheap as chips (if you're not too fussy what you chuck down your throat).

I'm guessing Spain would probably be the cheaper option on the whole, but see what those who've been there say.

There was a flyer at the ground at the last home game going with CST Spain. They do not do flights but prices start from £155, can get a flight from Donny to Barcelona for £75 on the Friday returning on the Sunday. Thats not too bad. www.cstspain.com

Went with them last Easter. They were very good, well organised and efficient. We stayed in Lloret which was not to my liking but you can stay in Callella which I'm led to believe is much nicer.

Definitely would recommend them.

yes been with them twice and going again this year. Stopped in Callela both times and had really good time. The hotel (Mar Blau) is pretty good and is about 5-10 mins walk from the main town and the beach. There are plenty of bars and one in particular which shows all the rugby. I have not stayed in Perpignan but judging the prices of food and drink in and around on match day I would imagine that that Callella is much cheaper.

As for CST they pick you up from the airport (might be a little more expensive to collect from Barcelona rather than Gerona) in with the price and transfer you up to Perpignan on match day giving a few hours before hand to hang around Perpignan. The two guys who run the trip (Ian and Dave) are rugby blokes and will arrange anything for you (ie some of our party went to watch Barcelona).

Flights...Gerona is about 30 mins from Callella while Barcelona is probably around an hour. This year we are booked going out from Leeds to Gerona with Ryanair and coming back from Barcelona to Leeds with Jet 2.

Last year we went to Calella and the traveled to the game in france by bus.
Calella is a lovely place lots to see and do. We flew from Doncaster to Gerona not sure of the price sorry but Calella is where i would recomend. The hotel we stayed in was called the Mar Blau hotel the food was great lovely and clean hotel very good choice of food and the pool areas were great. Also its great for the kids as we took our 9 year old and he loved the whole thing.

We have booked an 8 berth caravan on a 4* site in the south of france 18 miles from the ground. £500.00. Flights £125.00 return each. If you can get get 4 people to go the van only works out at 120 each which aint bad. Prices for a week Thursday to thursday.
