10,000,000 paid for mm!!! : Sat May 02, 2009 8:46 pm
ok
i is now assumed by all accounts that mm has generated 10 million quid of revenue from loyal sl fans.

assuming tomorrow gets 30 k in in addition to todays fans thats about 166 pounds per paying fan per day.

my views on this are well known, but id like to ask all loyal rl fans if they knew they could have given the cash from this weekend to donate 10 million pound to the development of the game as a whole what would they have done??
Gronk!

The £10,000,000 pumped into the local economy isn't from the RFL, it's from fans paying for hotels/foods/visiting places in the city, in fact I believe the SRU paid the RFL to move the magic weekend from Cardiff.

Correct. The RFL is being paid to stage this event, so, unless we're a sport awash with money, we can't turn it down, can we?

As a supporter, you have a choice - you choose to go or not. Funny how it was OK for some to want to move our kick-offs because they clashed with important games for Leeds/Barnsley and they wanted to go to Wembley, yet as a rugby league supporter, it's too much hassle to travel outside the M62?

If you want to spend the money you would have going to Edinburgh by giving it to a local amateur team - well done. :)

Depends really on whether the amount the RFL & the clubs earn from playing up there is better than what they'd take over the gates on a normal weekend, including food sales, beer, etc. The problem is we don't know the figures for these things, we just get the figures that put a positive spin on it. Obviously it does get fans to spend their hard earned on accomodation, nights out, etc, that they wouldn't have done on a regular round, which benefits the host city.

I can't help suspect though that for the clubs it doesn't pull in any more than a regular round and that the main motivation for it is promotion of the game. Again though, I can't help feel the merits of that are debatable, particularly after seeing saturation coverage on a poor pitch in a less than half full stadium.

It was the luck of the draw that those two played each other. The thinking behind it is to promote the game beyond the heartland.
