Crigg All Blacks U9's beat Eastmoor U9's at the weekend 24-20 in an excellent hard fought match. Crigg started the game well, but Eastmoor came back strong in the second half with Crigg just holding on for their first win over Eastmoor in several meetings at U8/9 level.

Yeah, remember that one. Everyone but the (Eastmoor) ref had seen the lad go in touch before they scored the winning try!

I've just come back from a meeting where we have discussed the situation about a lad at our club, (not our year) how he had an injury to his leg, the cut as you can see in the picture below (which has been down scaled as I don't what the full size one on) was a very nasty cut, the lad had also three days in hospital due to an infection.
The incident was caused by blade football/rugby boots and we have decided to not use these type of boots at our age.
Now I don't want to scare monger, but I do want you to as parents be aware of your children's boots, kids tend not to bother taking any care into maintenance never mind clean them, one of the worst is walking on tarmac/concrete which can lead to sharp edges on studs and blades,

one thing that tends to get over looked is the inspection at the start of the game, which we intend to make sure that it is checked for the safety of our as well as you kids on the pitch, so if you come across a situation where a player has poor quality boots that could cause injury please remember the photo of this lads leg.

I would like to add this is to warn readers on this forum who have children playing as do, and its not in anyway just post a gross picture,

If the forum mods have any problem with photo please remove it, but I thought as a parent of a lad that plays I would of like to be informed.

thats very worrying,my lad plays in nomis bladed boots in the summer but will revert back to studs once the pitches get heavy, his nomis boots have been the best pair he`s ever had and they are a rugby boot and not a football boot.

i think the bottom line is that all boots should be checked for sharp edges which seems to be overlooked at times. it just seems unfortunate that its bladed boots thats caused this injury.

my sentiments exactly, walking on hard surface the main culprit, as parents we should take on board to check them our selves with them present and not rely on the kids, they will then get used to the idea.

I used to check mine as a kid always screwing the studs in and out moving them around  but then we didn't have xbox 360 in my days

my lad plays in moulded rubber studs on dry ground, he found that the blades were heavy on the legs and the rubber ones were much lighter, he seemed to think he was quicker aswell.
