Not exactly a hypothetical question, at least, not now, but -
Sell-by dates: Do you stick to them rigidly, or do you "trust your luck"?
If, for sake of argument, you had some very fine Scottish smoked salmon in the freezer that you'd forgotten about for several months (9 months, to be precise), and the advice in the packaging was "consume within 1 month of freezing", would you still defrost it and eat it 9 months later?
I'm looking at this as a kind of human experiment, but if you don't hear from me in the next week or so, and are interested in joining the moderation team....
