It's an utter disgrace that the Council have washed their hands of this issue!

Peter Box has presided over the City for too long and during his watch the sports facilities have become a National joke.

Whatever he thinks of Wakefield Trinity or Rugby League the City needs these facilities. There was a petition supporting the development and proposed Community sports facilities with thousands upon thousands of signatures on it. There was also a hugely expensive Public Inquiry and the planning process before it.

It's an abdication of the councils duty to just say "nothing to do with us"

Not sure about national joke, i doubt anyone outside the city gives a damn. In fact to be honest most within the city don't either!

The problem with a call to arms, is that so few people in the City give a toss about the club, that any public noise will be barely noticeable.

The only avenue that will make any difference is if Fat Eric can be stirred into action - his Inspector has had the wool pulled over his eyes and the whole Inquiry process made a mockery of by Box and YC; good luck with that one though - the Fat Controller has other, more important engines to worry about.

Agreed.

The real pity in all this, is the fact that the elected leader of the local council couldn't give a toss about an issue that affects many thousand's of people whom he is supposed to represent.

IF the will was there from the council hierarchy, Newcold would likely have been built on the Stadium site and we would be part way to the trigger point for the ground development and the council and planning people are certainly culpable in slowing the other job down..

It makes my blood boil !

Wrong Bren, sorry but you are. It's public noise that got us this far - admittedly that no longer seems as far as it once did - but that's how we got here.

From 2006 to 2010 (Newmarket) we made an utter nuisance of ourselves and it really worked - see SWAG website archive - what is a shame is we thought we no longer needed to do that and had all involved on side - I don't know but I guess that's not the case anymore.

People do care but only as long as it's in their short term memories and that's where we have not been for a while.

Whether we can change things who knows but I know Box hated us for a while because we really showed him up - must be worth another go.

Fair comment - a lot of that pre-dates me, so I'll be guided by you; I gather you were very much involved.

With hindsight, do you think that deciding to play nice was a mistake? Polite meetings with all the movers and shakers, agreeing to embargo certain things because they were sensitive, not dobbing in to the media when heels were dragged etc etc; has that played into the hands of people who were always intending to shaft us?

Yes it was to a degree IMHO but hindsight is a glorious gift and we didn't have it - that said TRB is no soft touch and has always taken the questioning as far as possible.

Probably the biggest mistake was not keeping it alive in the press, there I think as the decent people we are we were badly mislead by people for whom lying is as natural as breathing.

I just hope it's not a dead story and it's possible to regain the momentum we had 6 or 7 years ago

Re: The City of Wakefield Community Stadium : Tue Apr 14, 2015 6:33 pm
18 months ago, Upon having it confirmed that the Newcold building was outside the S106 agreement and wouldn't contribute a square inch toward the trigger point of the stadium build, I sad that YCP and Colin Mackie had revealed his hand and it was time to remove the gloves and go for the throat.

We should have gone straight to the press, the Council, MPs, the Secretary of States Office and any other official body that might reveal YCPs duplicity and put pressure on them and Peter Box.
