Well Done : Sun Mar 15, 2009 8:24 pm
Another impressive effort today from your boys...........Good to see another club showing that Yorkshire is still a force in Rugby League.

I guess someone has to pick up the slack left from that shower across the way at Odsal

Seriously its good to see that under difficult circumstances you've got off to a good start :)

"Quote" But perhaps most impressive is another bumper Wildcats home crowd – 9,237 for a Saturday TV game in the cold and wet is a fine effort from one of Super League’s most progressive clubs "Gareth Walker the Mirror"

i agree we are playing out of our skins, but people seemed to be keeping away.

Our average is certainly down on last year. The RFL are doing a round of follow up inspections as part of the franchise decisions- we are already walking a thin line with our stadium, a drop in attendances could be another excuse for the RFL to think again in 2 years time.

But direct comparisons show lower attendances than last year for both Warrington and Catalans.

I think the club should try promoting itself a bit more in the town. We are in 4th place in the table and have won 4 from our first 6 games on the back of a huge injury crisis.

Let's be proud of our achievements and shout it from the rooftops.

I've been a little disappointed with the attendances given how well we are playing.

This years Warrington game was on a Friday and they brought a fraction of the fans they brought for last years Sunday game. The Catalans game is slightly more worrying as last year was a Tuesday and this year was a Sunday.

I would suggest that we take stock after the next three games, all of which should have "above average" crowds.

Yesterday was a warm day with sunny intervals with a team giving their all. It should’ve brought many out of the wood work. It was a poor showing, especially considering Widnes got over 5K for a televised match on a Thursday night. However, I thought the crowd ‘looked’ larger then the attendance given and I was surprised that is was so low.

The CC is obviously taking affect and perhaps more offers need to be used to entice the stay away support back. Whether this is through monetary terms or associated benefits of a pre-purchased ticket (i.e. buy a pre-purchased a ticket and; bring a friend for half price, get free pint at one of the beer outlets, get discounts at the club shop) I really don’t know. It’s a fine balance between putting promotions in place to attract people to the home matches whilst increasing turnover.

The number of kids now at matches is encouraging and I like the pre match entertainment idea of getting junior clubs onto the pitch competing against each other. It is good for the kids and brings the added benefit of parents of the children turning up to see them play.

Perhaps having a stall on the precinct throughout the week and on Saturday leading up to a home match may aid the cause.

With the results we are getting and playing some decent rugby you would expect quite a few to come out of the wood work. But it is quite expensive these days.
