Is it me or is this almost wishful thinking. The paranoid side of me would also have me believe that this is designed to stir up some resentment towards the project. Having said that it's pretty much a non story as long as PP is secured.

I hope your right - just a bit concerned with the end paragraph, which states secretary of state has the final say due to the involvement. There is the posssibilities of delay if that is the case, lets hope it doesn't come to that.

I think that’s the council trying to direct a bit of the heat away from them, I believe it goes to the regional office first where they will decide upon whether to refer the planning to the secretary of state.

Looking at the article from another angle it’s pretty much in every ratepayers interest that scheme gets the go ahead.

Bet this has also come as a bit of a shock to the people who live near the M63 too.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs, the people that came in. They're eating the cats! They're eating the pets!

Did W.M.D.C. have any money invested in Iceland?

If so, they should be more worried about getting that back.

To be fair I think it’s the Express pushing this story rather then the council worrying over getting money back should things fall through.

This is entirely the Express at work - I think the term is 'skullduggery' :?

When I said ‘they’ I was referring to the paper, do the council have any savings in the Icelandic bank?

If so, they (The W.E.)should be bleating about that, because that cash won’t be coming back any time soon.

I think we should look beyond the motives of the WE and look at the significant positives from the content of the Cabinet report. The report is available to view on the Council website.

Anyone who has anything to do with Local Authorities at the moment will know that the idea of effectively approving the ring-fencing of an allocation of £150k, recognising it may not be capable of being repaid, is a much, much bigger issue then it was a couple of years ago when this kind of figure would be allocated without too much trouble. To me this suggests a level of Council support for the project which cannot be broadcast for reasons of transparency, particularly in relation to their role as Local Planning Authority.

Absolutely spot on. It's a non-story really it was also in last nights EP.
The 150k guarantee is a lot better punt with 100's of jobs and superb sports.event and recreation facilities than the 9mill lost in Iceland.
A POINT WELL WORTH REITERATING !
