Despite the weather 7 very inexperienced runners set off from the Cas ground at around 5pm sporting T' shirts to advertise the run and arrived at Belle Vue at about 6.15pm after covering the 8.5 miles in good spirit. Everyone was very sore with injuries ranging from blistered feet/toes, pulled/strained muscles and chapped nipples (by far the worst in my opinion!). We have been friends since being small children (over 25 years ago!) and are a bit like the A-Team only from a council Estate! None of us have attempted anything like this before and aren't likely to again!
The run was dedicated to a particular group of wonderful children at Brigshaw High School, Allerton Bywater, Castleford aged between 11-16. Among them there are wheelchair users, children with down syndrome, severe epilipsy sufferers and physically/mentally and sexually abused children. All of the children live in foster care or spend time in respite due to their respective needs.
The staff at the school are quite simply a Godsend and do an awful lot of good to enrich the lives of these special children as well as assisting the children with access to to mainstream GCSE and NVQ education.
As such a trip to Ypres, Belgium to the World War memorials as well as a trip to a chocolate factory and waterpark has been organised.
The aim of the trip is twofold - to be educational and hopefully a fun time that they will remember forever. The aim was £2000 -£1000 of which has been obtained via a charity bike ride done by one of the childrens carers. Any money over the target will be split between 'Help for Heroes', 'Cancer Research' and 'Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service".
For those of you who beeped their horns as they passed and sponsored and/or gave money at the ground via the buckets we would all like to give you a very big thank you!!!
I will update with a final tally of money raised when we've recovered!!
Once again a big thank-you to all those who helped, particularly my mother-in-law for posting on the forum, something I should have thought of much earlier really!! Thanks x!
