Sick of the cheap option. : Mon Aug 23, 2010 5:33 pm  
I am praying we get our new ground becuase I am sick of the trend we have had for the last 25 years and for once I think many fans are actually getting fed up even the hardcore of Wakey spending hard earned money to watch how laughable we have become. Hope we get this ground to start building a team. The trend we have is not been able to sustain a good team and going for the cheap option this is one of our reasons our fan base never grows. Bradford have been crap for 3 years but they still have a far better team than us on paper there fan base as suffered for 3 years. We do very well considering what our practice has been for the last 25 years thats credit to us the fans. Not many teams would have kept the faith if they had been as bad as us. Rinaldi could not get in our team 6 year ago now hes probably one of our better players thats how far we have gone back. Here are the list of cheap options we have been doing this for 25+ years and now fans are fed up signings that may happen for next year Ewan Dowes , Worrincey its terrible and they will have to do a lot more for me to buy a season ticket.

Leanno for Tronc - (This whole thing stinks how can he be our player gets off the plane in Sydney then plays
for Brisbane the next day I think Ted realised he couldnt afford him)
Paul Cooke for Brough - Cheap option no 1 wanted him hes not shown 1 thing if we sign him its appauling.
Millard for Atkins - He wanted to stay we thought a third rate aussie who does the odd pretty pass was a better option NOT i.e. cheaper option.
Peter Fox - We lost out to KR because we offered fox peanuts he is 10x better than any wingers we have at this club.
Brett Ferres for Solomona - Cheap option once again
Ellis - Never Replaced great player we did not see the money once again
Westwood - From the area look what hes turned into .... we let him go .

We would be a top 4 side if we hadn't gone for the cheap options players want to leave clubs but they make it hard for them to leeds we just wave them goodbye and I am praying to god we get this ground becuase I hope this trend will end. I have sympathy don't get me wrong as its hard to build a team when we are not sure about the future of our club; But 25 + years the cheap option has been used we have been found out this year the last class player we had went and from then we got tonked twice every three games by utter ameatur performances I mean players struggling to catch a ball from a scrum/ players stumbling over the ball when playing it this is ment to be a professional sport. Morrison and Murphy thats the only talent we have left im affraid. NEWMARKET - NEW ERA

If we'd kept all them we'd have a bloody good team but we'd be well over the salary cap and we'd have gone bust.

Fully understand the frustration, but...

Tronc - nothing to do with not being able to afford him - if he wanted to stay.
Cooke for Brough - probably
Atkins - had to go (remember the tax bill?) Millard will come good IMO.
Fox - frustrating as the difference was not much
Ferres was never a direct replacement for Solomona. Sol was leaving anyway and you couldn't replace him with anyone in SL.
Ellis - We didn't want him to leave in the first place!
Westwood - I'd love to see him back at Wakey, but he helped us stay afloat at the time.

Some of those listed are genuinely frustrating - but we're still here and I'm still looking forward to next year and so we have survived this far - somehow! 8)

Ultimately I think you are missing the real issue.

The stadium will make a lot of things better but not in the way you mean.
And investors can only do so much, and we don't have many.
The issue with Wakefield is the supporters unfortunately. There aren't enough. It's no good blaming the BoD for not putting money in when the supporters don't.
The situation at Wakefield will improve when people come to watch in greater numbers.
If we had 10k crowds there would be no talk of mergers and ground shares.
Now you might say the ground will help because of better facilities. I agree. And we could market better. I agree. But ultimately, if we who love watching Wakefield play rugby league are a small minority, then we have to accept that we will be getting the cheap option.

John Kear is still in my opinion doing what he can with what he has. I'm sure he'd like to go sign Brent Pinch or Sam Friday for that matter... but he can't so we will get Charlie and Rinaldi and make the best if it.

Know what you mean I am sick of it , end of season cannot come soon enough for me. We have tried to raise more funds to sign and retain players through Squadbuilder. Sadly not emough signed up but we are very grateful to those who have. I know money is so tight at the moment which is why instead of increasing the gate money at the start of the season to £20 we should have brought in say a family ticket for £40 or say 2 adult tickets for £35. Try to get more people through the gate, if they spend less to come at least they will come and maybe call in at the shop on the way and you get your money back. I have said it before it would not be a bad thing if there was a fans voice involved in decision making to a certain extent. On the pitch we have been a disaster. Losing by 5 to ten points if we compete in a game I can stand but getting thrashed week in week out is just not entertainment. We have lost the Belle Vue spirit for whatever reason, perhaps it is time to have wages based on winning and losing as it has needed something to put a spark back into the team and give us a reason to turn up.

most of the rest of us gave up months ago, not all blaming JK, but someone at the club has to go, the business plan and appointment management are a joke, and yes, many on here could do better.

Not sure how many are signed up, but I am.

I have no issue with what squadbuilder is set up to do, but still not entirely convinced that the clubs share issue last year to raise funds to improve the playing squad, went entirely on the playing squad. TRB said the take up was good, but there was never any confirmed details from the club or any news as to who those of us who took up the option had helped to bring in/retain(typical really).

At least with squadbuilder there are details of whose being signed/retained using the funds.
