junior rugby 2014 : Sun Jan 05, 2014 11:07 am
With the new season almost upon us with the first round of the u14/16s barla nationals been drawn.

The new look Panthers 14s travel to west Hull next Sunday for a friendly game before travelling to north West counties runners up Halton hornetsin the first round of the nationals.

Now for my first gripe of the year why is it with the new season about to start why has nobody had the foresight to see that most clubs will have new players waiting to sign on,this delay means players Will miss out on the first competion of the year.a real shame when you have players training only because of red tape.

TBF in all the years I have been involved with YJARL (13 years) and including the winter seasons, this has always been the case, there is a signing on/transfer window clearly stated in the constitution, but is does seem ludicrous that 8-16 year olds have to conform to transfer deadlines, I think that once a season has ended all kids should be free agents and allowed to sign on at anytime to any club, I do feel that there needs to be some control during the season but sometimes it is draconian the way that YJARL enforce the rules.
I have no experience in any other "Junior" sport but if it is the same for RU, soccerball or cricket I would be amazed.

I couldn't agree more; signing a young player mid-season has all the red tape and seriousness of a professional sport - it's ridiculous and serves only to keep eager kids on the side-lines and out of the game. It's even more galling when certain clubs seem to be immune to the rules.

I was explaining the process to a friend who runs a jr football team in the pub at Xmas - he was flabbergasted.

FT . Your right as normal on these issues , the summer season makes it impossible for us all.
The barla cup being over months before the offical season kicks off is madness. The nationals the same. No kid should ever suffer and it also clears up playing rotas . Surley the kids should play

without the discipline with the movement of players it would be too easy to see clubs just fold hence the reason for rules of transfers, over the years I've seen and heard some under hand movements of players that does make it look very cringe worthy, the majority of players movements tend to be parent related.

with the present u16s we now have a winter league that has been reduced to 6 sides, I can only surmise this because of who they are playing within that league (super teams) there is nothing worse than taking a drumming each week but it does seem to easy to pull clubs out of leagues, to me what has been lost is the ability to find goals within these games.

I agree there needs to be some discipline in player movements and monitoring, however some of the measures taken are extreme.
As for the U16's winter league, the problem there was that BARLA informed interested clubs that around 27 teams were taking part, and once the league was released there was only 9 teams, so 3 then changed their minds, which I don't think they can be blamed for, you only need to look at the results in that league to see what probably would have happened in the games between them and the 2/3 "Super teams" that are drubbing the other teams week in week out

BARLA have been naughty, stupid and wholy inept with the way they have kicked off with trying to get us going back to winter. I for 1 support winter to be re interoduced .

Not to worry however YJL latest for this season under 7s to be 5 a side only . I know shaw cross as 20 players and that stanley always as around 20 players. Why do these idiots who run the YJL always concider the club with 5/6 players instead of the gold members that take teams away even if it is 50 miles away.

I know the development rule but last year we had the play on what ever happens rule now this. Its mad. We may as well give them a map to the nearest union club.

Draw made. I'm surprised how many teams are in it unless I've got the schools cup mixed up.
http://www.barla.org.uk/News/Details.asp?id=3505

Crigg and Cas P unlucky and have to play in first round .

Crigg home to fev lions in a very hard game for either side

I think iirc. cas away at Widnes side halton
