Only reason is that the turnstiles were only open till half time and the stewards used to open up the main gates at each end so anyone could walk in for free at half time.

i started going in 82 lifted over the turnstyles, i was 5! used to stand in the best stand, against the slope to the dugouts as i was too small to see or sit on the floodlights base. Eventually ended up on his shoulders. Always remember my half time sip of whiskey or rum to warm me up hic

i was dumped at the bottom of the threepenny n told not to move while he went up the top with his mates! Could not imagine doing something like that now though tbf we did get to know the people at the bottom who would share their 1/4 of sports mixtures with me!
