Compare his stats from last year with Turner. Martin missed alot of tackles but going forward he wiped the floor with him, and that was in a terrible team.

To be fair I agree with you in the fact he was in a poor team and people expecting lyon or jennings were talking rubbish but they must invest in a couple of forwards now

The point is Bomber said we needed to improve our right hand edge. Martin doesn't do that, at very best he is the same as Turner/Whiting (I think Turner/Whiting are better). So does this improve us? No.

It gives us squad depth perhaps but i'd rather go to Crooks and see how he goes than have Martin to call on.

Leeds have taken a gamble on Hardaker, Saints have decided not to bring back Pryce for the final and stick with Gaskell. Putting faith in youth!!

I dont really see why people are disappointed. It was becoming more and more apparant that we had been trying and failing to get a big name and we were either going to sign a younger player who was unproven, or someone like this as a stop gap.

Whilst im a little disappointed myself in the signing I think people are been a little harsh on Martin who has always been, and still is, a really useful centre. Its hardly looking to the future but I think he will go pretty well next year.

He did play all 27 games last season and still seems pretty quick from the highlights I've watched this morning...

Still not happy but I suppose time will tell.

Martin has been a decent SL centre playing in 'weaker' SL teams for years. Not as good as Domic was but a similar style of player and no mug. He knows what playing centre is about and is an out and out centre. Turner did OK last season but wasn't as good as some are making out - he is still in the 'potential' centre category and I hope he gets further time to prove himself.

My problem with the signing is that Martin is 33. 4 or 5 years ago I would have been reasonably happy with the signing if, as seems obvious, we were unable to bring in an NRL centre instead. This must be Martin's last year in SL and it's very much a 1 year stop gap. McRae/Gentle obviously feel that we need more proven depth and although probably not an ideal choice will have to do based on what's available and may prove to be not as bad as some fear.

This must be the case. Gentle and Bomber have both said they wanted to improve our right side, so have obviously looked around NRL and can't secure anyone. With Martin off the quota my guess is that they feel they have a chance signing a better NRL forward and have gone with him.

I agree with you Staffs, this is not as bad a signing as people are making out, obviously there is nothing available and a bit Hobsons choice. Lets just see how we go next season, God knows we have suffered the last 4 seasons under Agar, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is'nt a train!! :D

WTF? Seriously WTF?? What a complete waste of salary cap resources! We have better options already taking up salary cap space so what does this signing achieve? If we couldn't bring in a top centre it would have been a great opportunity to give Crooks a few games. Now with Martin as first choice it will be Turner playing in those games or vice versa. Short sighted signing, I'd rather use the extra cap space to improve the calibre of forward we are trying to sign.
