Got a link for that quote? He said in the Mail that we have two big signings yet to be confirmed. He never compared them or any of the players already signed but not yet named to Gareth Ellis.

“For far too long now, Hull FC have been languishing in the lower reaches and with a limit to their ambition and a failure to compete with the big sides.

“Our intention is to have the club back in a position to do that again as soon as possible and the only way we can do that is by investing in the squad and signing players of Gareth’s calibre.”

With the rumours surrounding the club regarding players wanting out, the running of the club been a shamble, it could well be a different FC side we see out next season. AP has alot of work to do regarding ingoing and outgoing players, I suppose we will see what true ambition he has in the next signings brought in.

WTF are you on about? The club are not responsible for rumours, nor are they answerable to them.

That clearly doesn't mean all players we will sign will be of Ellis' standard

Is it true that Richard Agar's favorite movie of all time is Groundhog Day or does he just generally like the same boring s**t day after day, season after season?

Every signing has an element of risk to it. But a comparison between Ellis' and Manu's NRL appearances and International caps has me feeling confident that we have a definite upgrade.

Well with Arundal and Watts falling well short of been in the calibre of Ellis, I'm sure you and the rest of the FC fans will be expecting more huge signings! as is the intent of AP.

Thing is, it doesn't matter how good or bad these signings are if we don't get the rest of our recruitment and retention correct, so we should really wait until things progress further before we judge things too much.

Talk about misinterpreting a quote.
Stop spending so much time analysing quotes from FC and looking for faults.
Who knows? By the time Arundel and Watts reach Ellis's age they may have achieved as much as him and proved to have been top calibre signings. Time wil tell.
But we are not going to be filling the team with players over 30 who have achieved much. We need the best of the youth as well.

Well I will stick my my neck on the line now and clearly say Arundal and Watts will never achieve anything in the game to be compared to Ellis.

Hudgell said 7 years ago that your 5 year plan was to be challenging for SL honours in a 14 k stadium. You're currently out of the play-off places and according to some in a similar financial position to Bradford, looking to trade down your squad on gates of 7k. Rovers most publicised achievement of the last 3 years, sadly, has been the ridiculed Willie Mason saga, a truly shambolic effort by your incumbent administration. The landscape of recruitment is changing for both clubs, but the acid test will be the quality of squads our respective coaches put together. I'm happy as it stands that AP won't sell Gentle or the fans short in this respect. We may not get the best squad but we will be looking at a spend approaching the full cap. Will Hudgell maintain his assertion of challenging for SL honours? He'd better, that £2m stand won't pay for itself.
