Re: Warrington up next : Sat Jun 22, 2024 7:17 pm
Well that's the first time this season I've been gutted to lose.

We got what we've wanted for ages in spirit and tenacity and our defence is years better than it was a few weeks ago, what's more we look fitter too. The fans knew that and got behind the boys appreciating some effort for them out there.

To suffer such adversity with injuries during the game and yet play like that right to the end is so heartening, yet we had enough chances to be 18 points up at half time. The thing is we have got our defence and wanting so much better, we look like we want to win again. However we are still lacking in organisation with the ball and with any sort of structure or guile near their line. Our halves just don't organise or engender any sort of calm in their 20. That said what a great crop of young players we have. Moy with such a good step and low centre of gravity when running with the ball is also pretty safe at the back and looks the part. He'll have bad games but he's learning and a massive prospect. Lewis Martin really excites me and his willingness to run for most causes like 6th tackle kicks is to be admired and so good to see. Yusuf Aydin has a great great engine too and works his socks off for long periods whilst Will Gardner had his best game for us thus far, he'll make it too. Man of the moment Denise Barmforth has a bit to learn yet about being cooler on the pass from acting half for me, but he's a match winner and no mistake, get him signed up. If we are set on playing Houghton spell him on 30 minutes with Denine because he certainly brings impact on being introduced and I I think that would work.

I think Tumavive has brought some steadiness in the centre as well but we really do need two big fast centres for next season but for me it was a sound performance and after weeks of coming on here and saying all we want to see is passion effort and wanting then we have had that in spades in the last two weeks and as I say I was gutted to lose out in the end. As a footnote I would also add in support of all those who say we have to somehow push the boat out and make at least two big money signings for 2025 just look at Matt Duffy we keep him quiet for large chunks of the game and then up he pops keeps his head and breaks our hearts. That's what you get when you spend money!

Very pleased with the efforts and actually enjoying watching my team play, which I haven’t said in quite a while. Really thought we were going to pinch it at the end.

Reynolds showing what we’ve missed since Sneyd in a proper 7. He’s doing some really nice bits and we have so much more direction with him in the side, alongside Trueman. It’s not amazing, he’s not a game breaker or marquee, but he gives a lot of what we’ve really lacked.

Super impressed with Herman, Ashworth, Briscoe and Aydin - all also new additions.

Denive impressive again. Moy’s best game, in the line more - could have had two more try assists if he gave to Martin. Learning curve for him.

We lack spark and genuine quality. As said previously, Williams and Dufty the differences. We’re up to 50(?) in the squad numbers and are without 4(?) quota players in the squad. Says it all.

One major thing that showed up for me was pace (or lack of) we've no speed in the halves or centres. Carlos got done for speed right at the end and looked like he was running in concrete boots for his intercept, we're crying out for some genuine pace throughout the team.

Balmforth was great again, with a try and an assist and some great passing from 9 really got us going in that second half. Felt we blew more than a few chances today, we just can't seem to get any luck at the minute the last conversion in off the post pretty much summed it up.

As the old saying goes there is no substitute for pace yet we have to go back to 1985 when we had real pace in all our backs .
If Ritchie Rich needed a reminder then today was the day when our nine was one of our fastest players.
That backline of Briscoe,Hardaker and Chamberlain will send shivers into opposition teams next season with their blistering pace,
We saw today with the Tuimavave interception and how easily he was cought shows how important pace is and none of those three could go the length of the field from an interception
We didnt have to sign Briscoe waste of money. We could have done what Warrington did and use two of our younger wings for next season who have a bit of pace but give them quality strike centres to work with

Jet lag?

New research strongly suggests that exercise could be an effective jet lag cure. Here are the best ways to exercise to reset your sleep.
Not going to cut and paste all that but suggest you and your pals read some of the articles that are available.

Plenty of evidence from professional people suggests that exercise is an effective cure for Jet lag and he is an athlete correct?
Certainly i dont like the flight from Australia and you do feel crap when you get back but i can guarantee if you are prepared to do some running and excercise you will recover a lot faster
No reason why Cartwright couldnt have done a 40 minute spell today especially as we are so short in the second row and given the club have a two week break after today

Why ask him to play 40 mins when he doesn't feel ready.? Especially when we've got a break coming up to make sure he's 100%.

Listen to his interview on the club site. Sounds like he was really struggling with it.

Briscoe has improved the defence and drives the ball up well, we also needed more professionals in the dressing room. He's an upgrade on Mackintosh. But ideally he'd be a squad player next year with a new centre signed.

I've been hearing murmurings that Cartwright has a bit of a back issue. If that's the case then him not playing is the right decision. He has 2 weeks now to recover and get ready to play

That would make more sense

On Trueman I appreciate he’s coming back from 2 huge injuries and in a side that has been on the back foot but I do feel he needs to show more than he has so far. Reynolds whilst not brilliant has for me been the better of the 2 halves which is an indication of things.

Trueman - I’ve been underwhelmed. I can say this
because he is a Marquee player !
This is not ‘Finishing school’ for SL players.
Marquee players should be A grade immediately once
they are match fit and after 5 matches he sure as hell should
be inc a week off for CC final to work on aerobic conditioning.

Reynolds looks was fitter and I assume that’s because
he came from Leigh.

It sounds a bit harsh but he is a Marquee signing
and they are held to a higher standard.

I hope he stamps his authority more and more
because our red zone play is the most alarming
Aspect of our game.
It used to be defence and commitment and we
resolved that.
Hopefully we can resolve our attack and Jake
is a MASSIVE part of that.

Re: Warrington up next : Sun Jun 23, 2024 7:15 am
We looked sloppy in D round the ruck and on our line, and our attack can never be described as aspirational. That being said, what an improvement on only a matter of weeks ago. Really pleased we showed some fight, even three or so weeks ago I think at 18-6 we'd have totally collapsed and it'd have finished 42-6.

Balmforth is the real deal, hope he's signed up already but he's going like he's playing in the shop window.
