Has anybody considered that stress related illnesses in this country might be rocketing for many many reasons, including it been a pretty stressful society to live in. Family in-balance, recession, job cuts....

So, the answer to those problems is for the goverment to turn around and say, "You know what, lets try and solve that problem by telling all of those people that if they want to be depressed, we can only afford for them to be depressed for a week? That should sort out those "stress" related issues"....

I'm glad none of the recent posters on here work for the NHS or in the medical sector

I think sadly this thread highlights by some the ignorance and stigma attached to mental health problems..

Mental health illness has a high mortality rate, depression (suicide), eating disorders (anorexia), substance abuse (alcohol & drugs) to name but a few.

Mental health is a serious problem which affects 1-5 people, and should be treated and respected as such.

What a lot of folk in the Public sector don't realise is people in the real world don't get endless sick leave/pay.

Totally agree.I have seen how depression affects people including a good friend of mine taking his own life
