I get what you're saying but isn't that what a fans forum is all about and a place where fans can come on and discuss/debate things like this?

Think most are supportive of TS as have long asked for an experienced head coach to come in and sort things out. When there is a disconnect between the Club and fans like there is (and has been for a while) and when things aren't going particularly well based on the previous seasons its only natural fans do question things.
.

Yes absolutely and never said anything differently. Totally agree with that.

But my opinion is that TS and his staff should be left to get on with what we have been asking for the last few seasons without every decision being questioned.

It does feel like a case of damned if they do and damned if they don’t

IMHO we are probably guilty of judging Savelio’s performances in comparison to the wasteland our back row has become?

He is better than Lane - whose form simply dropped off a cliff seemingly when he signed the contract, but is that much of an achievement really?

His other competition this season is Griffin, a converted centre; plus (depending where they are played of course) Fash and Cator, who are whole-hearted 100% effort, but (unfortunately for us) ultimately undersized.

Savelio has spent significant time each season with us in the stand due to injury, and I haven’t seen it mentioned recently that when he left the NRL it was because the medical team at Brisbane Broncos assessed his knee as not up to playing professional RL after a severe ACL injury.

Being the best of a decidedly average bunch for me is not grounds to be “must play”, particularly if there is a disciplinary issue: we are all guessing this to be the case, but who knows.

He will also be on a relatively high contract, so renewing it may well not make sense given the changes we all hope to see into next season?

Personally, I choose to believe that Tony Smith is doing everything he can to turn around our dysfunctional playing squad, and that excluding one of your better players is not something he would do without very good reason(s).

What on the field Savelio has overall been very good, most of that time playing with awful pivots, so not as good a ball as ge should.

But he is an expensive risk with a possible attitude problem l, so can see the reason for not retaining him.

One of our few players that will be sought after by teams challenging for the top.

That's the beauty of sport I guess that every decision/move and club or coach makes will be questioned by the fans and this get elevated to higher levels of scrutiny when things haven't gone to plan over a period time. I remember when Fergie went to Man Utd and the knives were out for him when things were taking time but Martin Edwards stuck by and supported him, the rest they say is history.

Spot on, they are better judges of the players than we are , as fans, as they see them every day in training. If we want a better culture, and long have we been saying that, then a few fans' favourites may be moved on , if they are deemed to be problematic. Everyone was clamouring for Wynne's return, myself included, but there is obviously an issue that we aren't aware of ,with him and, if that is the case, so be it. Let him be someone else's problem. I remember when Abdul asked for a transfer, which at the time seemed okay for us, as we had Kelly, someone said that he felt that didn't fit in with the culture of the club. Maybe he wasn't the problem and he couldn't work with some of the players, we retained? One thing is certain, we need a new identity, from within, like the Hull sides of old, who went to battle, for each other against some fearsome packs. I remember one game against Cas, when we had Sterling at scrum half , Reilly tried to nobble him and every single player was in, all for one, and while that is now gone from the game, the camaraderie should still be there and I hope, when the dust settles and the cull is complete, we can get a group with that same mentality.

This is bang on and is what AP & JC are doing. TS has, and will give every squad member a chance to prove they want to be wearing the shirt. If your attitude stinks or you don't play to his standards your out the team and eventually the club. That's what we have been asking to happen more regular over the last few years as supporters and sponsors, and now its happening. Anybody who is questioning anything TS is doing, or has done, needs to be a little more patient. WE don't work with these players every day. WE don't have them banging on our office door whinging and bitching every week. I quote one thing Brett Hodgson said in a conversation we had before he departed the club. 'Its like working in a Kindergarten with 30 kids every day. The problem is the older kids should know better and set an example to the younger ones.' The pressure valve was released on Sunday as TS was left alone with his coaching team, captain and senior players to continue to create a culture that is needed to succeed in professional sport. That has NOT happened in the recent past, in fact up to a few weeks ago.

i agree but why then come out and say he has a hand injury?
he is fit enough for the reserve game on Saturday.
I would rather a coach just say he is dropped and leave it at that

I remember Martin Edwards a few years ago saying that he still backed Fergie along with Sir Bobby but that the board at the time may have lost patience had Robins not got the winner against Forest in the 3rd round. Sparky Hughes then helped by scoring a equaliser late on in the final to earn a replay, then Lee Martin scoring the winner in the replay.

If I remember that correctly, Hughes hit one of his special volleys didn't he? Hull's rebuild will not be done in one season, but you can make giant strides in a short time. Look at Brisbane Broncos, they had an awful run in last season, losing their place in the finals, but this year, after 7 or 8 rounds , they are the side to beat. I am not saying we can make signings like NRL stars, but with some astute recruitment and retention, we can be a hard team to beat again. I think we will see a complete team in around 3 years time, but hopefully, we can have some great games on the way and make the fans want to attend , again and again. I must admit that renewing my pass is an easy option for me, the games I cannot get to, my son does, but it is vital that we retain memberships, for the club to remain solvent. With that in mind, I do hope the communication is better than it has been previously and I get the feeling with TS, going by the pre-match interview he did before the Giants game, which I saw last night, that it will be. He was honest, frank and , for the first time I have noticed, visibly tired. He looked like a man who has been working his socks off, and the work he puts in must be allowed to come to fruition. Willie Peters may well turn out to be a top coach, but that team is largely TS's, and they look the real deal now, so there is light at the end of it all, in my opinion. My hope is that he can assemble a hungry team, with an aggressive Wigan style attitude.
