The perspective of the game is sometimes hard to judge from a seat in the stands.
I have waited until I watched the back on TV before making judgement.
Fan want consistency. We did not get that last night. The Ruck was not officiated the same. Moving off the mark just doesnt get penalised and therefore is prone to abuse.
With the benefit of listening to the audio of the referee and the VR it does give some clarity on some of the decisions, but it was more of a case for trying to justify then rather then being correct.
What appeared to be a trip on Ellis was not looked at. The VR could easily have been used to clarify this.
The Minichello no try (fair enough, he knocked on), but to restart with a Wigan scrum? Thaler (and the commentary team ) tried to state that Williams made the ball go backwards, then changed to "the ball came out on impact" Well, for as many season as I can remember, that was classed as a loose carry and therefore a knock on by the ball carrier.
moments earlier, similar situation, Bateman spills the ball on impact with the ground whilst still moving. That is a free play and not as described tackle complete.
The officiating was poor last night but not as poor as Wigans turnout. I dont buy the travel excuse. I distinctly remember a play off game at KC (when Horne nearly got us the win in hte last seconds) where wigan just about filled the North stand, probably twice the number of fans than they brought last night and a further distance. Truth is, there fans are as sick of watching Wanes negative style as the rest of us.
