Mental day that one. I think there was some building work going on at the time and someone decided to leave all the rubble nearby.
I remember Moira Stewart on BBC news reporting on the violence on TV.
At least we got a song out of it :D

I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011.

Yeah, Good Friday '81. I too was stood at Airlie Street end (my usual spot, which is why I sit in South Stand today I guess, same viewpoint!). I seem to recall Paul Woods kicking a penalty around half-way through the first-half, and as the ball went through the posts I saw a brick flying through the air! About two minutes later it was utter mayhem, something resembling a riot in Belfast or Derry that we used to see on the news in those days.

I remember an old-feller being taken down the tunnel with blood pouring down his face. Think the game was halted for around twenty minutes, but not wholly sure on that. Think the game finally ended with a one-point win for rovers courtesy of a late Phil Lowe try, but again my memory is a touch sketchy on this. The rumour doing the rounds afterwards was that it was City fans who had started it!! Seeing as City had barely enough fans at that time to start a fight in a phone box, I think that might be one rumour well wide of the mark.

Fun days!!!!

I usually stood at the Airlie Street end as I had a bad experience in Threepenny. Or to be more exact the back of it. I think it was the first game I went to as well. It was a night game and had been dry all day but strangely the rain began to fall on me and I got soaked

Great times.
Crooksie going between the posts under the nigjt sky at Elland Road below a rammed Spion Kop full of Hull fans was also class, then us beating Rovers in the John Player at Headingley are other standouts early 80's memories.

I remember it well. Crooks scored right in front of me. As you say it was absolutely rammed. We were packed in pens like cattle. Scary when you think about it now.

The John Player Final was the Ronnie Wileman blind side try.
