Maybe he's come as a fairly inexpensive hit with regards the cap and the fact he is exempt from the overseas quota that both McRae & Gentle see him as a suitable player for one year to give us cover and a geniune centre whilst still leaving us space to sign a decent player in an area we are in need of when an opportunity arises.

Exactly. If Rovers had signed him we'd have ridiculed it.

Can you imagine Huddesfield, Wigan, Warrington, Saints or Leeds signing him?

Not really, but they are top half of the table teams.

I am amazed at this thread.

Tony Martin is one of the best Pro's in the game. He has probably done more for community development at the clubs he has been at than any other player, and that is a massive statement but one I am sure is true having heard people from London and Crusaders tell me about how he goes about his business.

This is a very simple and astute signing. He is a model pro and will be a great bloke to have around the squad and club in terms of an example for the younger blokes and his experience could prove to be a big help to coaching staff too.

He is not going to be earning much more than Washbrook was on and I know who I would rather have around to be honest.

As he is from Crusaders does he effect our cap? Afew on here seem to think he does, I don't think he does though!

I am nothing short of disgusted at this signing !! I could not believe it when I first read it this morning. If this is AP "showing intent" then he is going to get a big surprise when passes go on sale.

I cannot think of a single reason why we have made this signing. It's the sort of signing that Widnes, Wakey, Dobbins, Bradford would make.

Lyon, Jennings, Bridge......nah..let's take a 33 year old never been who nobody else wants !

This is far worse than making no signing at all. My complete optimism was gradually disappearing each day but this is the final straw.

Forget your season pass AP ! I won't be shelling out £225 for one !!

Embarrassing.

If you actually believed we were signing Jennings, Bridge or Lyon then you need to come back to planet earth.

It is the fans that have created all of this hype, admittedly I wanted a better player then Martin, but I am still positive about next season with new coach, pivotal players, chairman etc etc etc.

Why wouldnt he affect the Cap? Its the quota/non-fed list that it wont affect.

Nope.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Two months is swift? I suppose in terms of the pace you'll have on that right side it's pretty swift.
