Saying all this, I'd still rather keep Connor, as I was looking forward to seeing what he would do under Smith.

Was hoping he'd get hold of Connor like he did with Briers

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Whilst I can understand Connor may decide to leave if he feels we aren't going to win anything soon and sees it as another transitional period, I'd still be disappointed. For me unless he was to sign for say St's or Wigan there is no guarantee he'd win silverware any more with another club. It would also be disappointing if he chose to leave and to miss out on working with a highly regarded and successful coach who has a proven track record of improving players he works with. So in some ways if he doesn't want to take the opportunity to work with someone like Smith then maybe that says something?

Its all currently speculation and rumour but one things for sure big decisions are needed to move the club forward on the field.

Could be that there’s been no one side that’s pushed for it to happen, but it just suits both parties.

Bit like the Sneyd situation

We must be in the running for Clune or Clifford.

Taken from a Knights forum...

KNIGHTS HALVES ON THE OUTER
Something is going on at Newcastle regarding their halves.

Still looking for a replacement for Mitchell Pearce, whose move to France this year left a gaping hole in their playmaking, the club has offered both their current halves, Jake Clifford and Adam Clune, to English clubs.

It can mean only one thing - they have a halfback either signed or in mind for 2023.

Could it be a last desperate play to snare Luke Brooks from the Tigers?

If jake wants out or he isn’t signing a new deal , it’s best he goes now , or if it’s smith’s decision we have to trust him . But do we need wardle . Already have Carlos and sutcliffe , plus wynne and Scott and even griffin if he stays . Is it guess work we’re getting wardle or isn’t mentioned somewhere !

Seen it from the usual suspects online. Watson doesn't get on with him either.

It might be a bit of 2+2. Suppose we'll have to wait and see

Wardle is an excellent young centre, who has potential to be International class, I'm not sure you can say that about either Wynne or Scott.

Carlos, Sutcliffe and Scott have the ability to play in the backrow too.

If we where to have Longstaff, Lane, Savelio and maybe Carlos in the backrow, we could use our last non fed on a scrum half.

If it happened and we got Wardle it would be nice to recieve a player who has a point to prove. Rather then us heing the ones who release and watching them perform at other clubs(granted not always the case).

Could be a sign of things to come. Ive read and heard all sorts of theories regarding Connor and they is different camps you can allign yourself to on that front.

Ultimately I think Smith has enough experience to make the correct decision for the team and club. I mean one theory what wont go away is that Connor and alot of other team mates have fruatrations with each other. Maybe its a case of one step back before we can go forward, who knows ?

What you have to remember is Connor was never staying after 2023 and maybe that is where the conversations have taken place. If Smith isnt convinced he wont stick around after 2023 he probably wont want to waste time building a team around him. It all points to what Smith gets his teams doing, no one is bigger then the badge and if they dont want to wear it then they can go.
