Re: Tony Martin : Sat Oct 08, 2011 9:15 am
intiall reaction to this signing was very poor and very underwhelmed and personally i woudnt habe signed him but he is a solid defensive right centre that isnt bad in attack yeh hes 33 now and is a short term signing before a top right cenre comes in hopefully but also all the talk has been about improving the right side i woudnt be suprised to see will sharp been told to look for a new club with gentle bringing in a aussie winger. lets not forget we where told that gentle will bringing in and using the quota spot on a outside back now im sure martin wasnt a gentle signing and isnt a quota player so dont be suprised to see a aussie winger come in with hopefully a english forward coming in. also the like the artist says graham mackay certainly did well for us and lets not forget phelpsy did well for us last season even though he was just short term signing so lets just see how martin goes because he could be a suprise package.

You honestly think we will sign a quota winger for 2012, when we have just signed a new centre and already have a 2 young wingers?

like ive said all the talk has been about improving the right side and gentle was given a quota spot to go out and get an outside back now that wont be a centre now will it. as for the right wing sharp isnt good enough and lyne isnt ready and needs to go and play champ rugby

Why is it not appropriate to judge Martin until he's played a game for us even though we've seen plenty of him in SL, but it is appropriate to judge Sharp on 12 games for us (I'm not going to include substitute appearances, they're a joke for a winger) and again ignore what we've seen of him elsewhere?

And if we use an overseas spot on a winger now it would be stupid, we have far greater need for a forward (and still centre IMO, but that's out of the window now).

I'd like to see Sharp start along side Martin next season,he showed enough in the leeds game to be given another chance IMO.

Re: Tony Martin : Sat Oct 08, 2011 11:49 am
I think that this signing will shore up our right side a bit, which is what we need, as I think that Martin will be stronger in defence than Turner would be.

If Sharp doesn't perform, or is injured etc, what would people think to playing Turner on the wing? Because I actually think he would do well there. Ideally I'd like to see Lyne and J. Briscoe go out on dual-reg loan and gain a bit of experience.

turner is not a winger whiting will play there instead, agree about dual reg out briscoe and lyne thats got to happen but most likely wont and dont be suprised to see a quota winger come in with sharp been told to look for another club.

As it stands now, I expect Whiting to be on the bench to spell the backrowers (Manu, Tickle, Westerman) and also cover backs incase of injury. Hence I don't see him playing on the wing.
The only way I see this changing is if we sign a backrower.
