By and large the big clubs voting to keep their advantages and smaller ones trying to minimise the gap. The fact the clubs themselves are having a ballot and will vote as to what suits themselves best just seems wrong to me. The SL board thing was always a bit weird. We need a singular, competent, ruling body IMO.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

I think reducing the cap would result in reducing the quality and becomes a false economy (a bit like getting a cheap coach can actually cost you quite a lot of money)

Not really, the cap is there to stop clubs spending more than they can afford.
At the moment, 2021 income will be way down on projections made even 4 months ago. Quality will have to be compromised, or players will have to be paid less than they are now.
Otherwise the top four will monopolise the best players, the rest will struggle even more to retain them.
And an expensive coach doesn't guarantee financial success.

Its a tough one but plans will have been made and contracts may have already been sorted for next year so is it fair to impose this reduction? No one is forced to spend up to the cap so why restrict the ones that can for the sake of ones that cant?

I cant see it going down well with players at clubs who are voting for a reduction in cap yet take advantage of the marquee rule. Seems a bit of a contradiction.

If tje salary cap gets reduced, will people expect seasonass prices to be lower/remain at the same price?

Can't see the point in reducing salary cap, will inevitably reduce the standard, mean superstars leave the comp & will impact on the youngsters as well - many of them can already earn more stacking shelves than they are paid at 17 - 19.
I would rather extend the Super League, accepting the big clubs will dominate - but you will still have lots of competitive games throughout the comp. Look at the Premiership, that is in effect 3 or 4 mini leagues within one.

I think the economic impact on fans would be more likely to influence prices, as some or all of job losses, tax increases, lower wages etc. kick in, RL might be seen as a less affordable luxury for many fans, and it may have to be priced to reflect that somewhat. Maybe even more so, if there’s greater competitive imbalance, for the teams on the wrong end of that.

There seems to be an acceptance that the next TV rights deal will see a reduction in income. To mitigate that, I think the sport has to stay full-time, but the money for that has to come from somewhere. Or maybe ‘we’ have to look for a radically different structure.

From Matthew Shaw of League Express:

@M_Shaw1
Very much a Yorkshire/Lancashire & overseas split on the salary cap.

Castleford, Huddersfield, Hull FC, Hull KR, Leeds & Wakefield all in favour of reducing it.

Catalans, St Helens, Toronto, Warrington & Wigan against it.

All eyes on Salford, who are thought to be undecided.

People may be surprised that Salford is the club undecided, but they don't spend £1.8 million anyway, so it won't have a significant impact on their business or finances.

If Salford vote against a reduction it would be a 6/6 split. The deciding vote would go to the RFL.

As it stands, there is no date set for a vote.

Guess Warrington atent worried about the cap being reduced and the impact of the virus. That's one hell of a signing. Hopefully it will mean we keep Jones, wonder how how he will fit in with Austin, Widdopp and Ratchford.

Someone we need to try and keep up.

Got to start with a new coach and some extensions

Good on Warrington. By announcing it now i guess its their way of saying the cap cant be reduced because theyve already spent it!

I hope he can stay fit because he'll be a joy to watch in SL.

With all the bad news of Ratu going and possibly Jones the club really need to make a statement by bringing in an Aussie coach.
I understand its difficult but we have a first class squad yet a third class coach in interim charge.
