Is it racist to compare a black player with another black player, no obviously not, however if skin colour is the reason the two players have been compared, then yes it is racist.

Hull’s Ratu Naulago been compared to Mark Calderwood seems odd to me, granted I have only seen him on highlights, but other than playing wing I didn’t see much in common.

I am not saying this is unique to Hull, recently a young Leeds player Muizzi Mustapha has been compared to ex players Darren Flearly and Anthony Farrell. I have challenged Leeds fans on this as I believe the reason they are been compared is skin colour rather than playing style. I would say young Mustapha direct hard runs are more like Barrie McDermott, yet I have heard nobody compare the two.

I hope this post does not warrant deleting/a warning/ban, I am just trying to clear my previous point up.

We are getting drastically off topic here but you have just summed up exactly what annoys me about the current use of the word racism, and the people who love to be offended by anything.

Racism is seeing people of a different colour as second class citizens, treating them differently because of their race. There is appalling racism and bigotry that still goes on the world, but it gets lost amongst trivial rubbish like this, or by Amber Rudd referring to someone as coloured rather than black. These things aren't racist and they just undermine the genuine persecution that people actually do have to endure.

so if I were to say x reminds me of a young y when he first started playing, am I ageist?

Hang on, "young Mustapha direct hard runs are more like Barrie McDermott" so, you are ageist.

It’s a damned good job that hot weathers gone or you would have melted. Snowflakist is becoming the new racist. I’ve got a historical charge of picking my nose in public from when I was 5 years old, facing 2 years in prison or permanent expulsion from the public. Hope it’s the latter.

Or perhaps the original poster was linking Calderwood to Naulago, due to both having Rugby union backgrounds, both being wingers, with a bit of speed. As far as I am aware as an old codger, I’ve never known anyone who cares what colour creed or religion our players are, your link to racism was was unnecessary, and at best misguided. “Sorry seems to be the hardest word”

But, taking the positive, his back pedalling on (and many other) threads means the butter is churned and the mangles has been in overdrive.

No, racism on any level is unacceptable, it’s not trivial rubbish and Amber Rudd was wrong to call people coloured

If objecting to racism on any level makes me a snowflake then so be it

I am not back peddling, I was just clearing up my original point which I still stand, perhaps I should of been a bit clearer with my point 1st time round

I won’t be making an apology. Both been wingers, all wingers have speed, one who stopped playing 10 years ago, I questioned why they had been compared. Calderwood doesn’t have a union background, he signed at Leeds from Stanningley as a kid. I can’t see how that is the same as a bloke that has left the army and union 7’s to take up league.

For goodness sake, give it a rest. You have been warned already, you are reading into a simple comparison FAR too deeply and you need to realise that comparing 2 similar raced players is not, in any way, racist.

Well both played for Hull, both played Union Calderwood Harlequins from memory, both are wingers, both have muscles.

Nobody as compared him to Barrie McDermott because he is nothing like him in any facet, and i have not heard anybody compare him to Antony Farrell either, and he is nothing like him in any facet either, he is very much like Darren Fleary in build style and like Fleary lacks skill but makes up for in in aggressive running and brute force. The fact they are both black does make another factor in comparisons but its the style of play more than anything.
