Not convinced at all. Unless we seriously alter our tactics (anyone have any reason to believe we will?) then he will do a similar style of job as Thorman, albeit to a far higher standard. I'll wait to see who else we sign before totally condemning it but I would hope we will get a new SO with a creative side to his game or a similar FB at least.

No doubting Long has been the best SH in SL for a number of years now but his best years are well behind him and this was the perfect opportunity to go out and get a young SH to build a team around for the next 4/5 years. Just comes across as yet another stop-gap signing IMO.

Still at least he actually is a SH

Sean Long is exactly the player we needed to sign

He has the experience and skill to guide us around as well as having a decent kicking game

The only down side is his age; but the experience thatg provides our team will be priceless

He will have no issues of a visa and we wont be waiting until he arrives from Aus like other signings

I think people are a bit dissapointed after all the talk of Orford is definaltey coming extra

As has been sadi above; on his day he can be the best 7 in super league

In my opinion this is a fantastic signing

It may have been the perfect opportunity as far as Hull were concerned but who is out there and available and good enough?

I'm hopeful that this signing is the first indication of a shift in our approach. I can't see Long wanting to come and play the sort of stuff we do now, so hopefully part of what Agar said to apparently convince him was that we intend to move towards a more expansive game that will suit him.

 I think you may be right, it has been a difficult couple of seasons for the fans, as a business the clubs main aim is to sell season passes and fill stadiums the only way they can do that is to improve and the only way to improve is to sign top class players.
I reckon there will be a couple more, with one of them being a massive singing. It is a fantastic step in the right direction

The Orford thing may have taken ages to sort out and possibly fallen through and if he did come he would only have been here for two years maximum.
I think the club have just thought if we put all our eggs in the Orford basket and the likes of Long are missed we could miss out all together.
Im sure the club would have loved Orford but decided to strike now and get Long instead of potentially missing out on both of them !

As I dont have Setanta its hard to keep up with things in the NRL but I'm sure their will be a few 23/24 year old SH knocking about that would love the chance to earn big money as the focal point for a SL team. It just needs someone with a bit of vision to spot them and convince them to come.

Exactly. I think it was Anderson who said that you hardly ever see Long take the wrong option, and that kind of thing is so important. How many times have we been frustrated over the past couple of years with blowing good positions by doing the wrong thing?

Well that is the hope I agree but we need a few more players in order to be able to play that way IMO. Lets hope some more signings will be announced that will enable us to play a more expansive game.

And honestly how long (pardon the pun) do you think Longey will be playing for, he'll be 35 by the end of his 2 yr contract.
