Looks increasingly like we picked the worst possible time to lose our head coach. The whole sport is up in the air, of course, but we’ve just ejected the pilot.

I blame Radford for Kelly been unsettled
To lose his shirt number and play second fiddle to the sulking sultan we can all see was the wrong decision.
Its worrying that its reported that Jones said he wants to leave and players we want to keep look like moving on yet the ones apart from Tuimavave who many of us wouldnt be be bothered if they left look like they will be staying put.
With Pearson and his pal at HKR pushing for a cap reduction little wonder Kelly is leaving.
So we now have the joy of watching Connor fail miserably once again at 6 and the only two players who lit up the stadium are leaving.
Unless we get an overseas coach in i can see more player disruption coming and one or two of our new overseas recruits asking to leave

We didn't "lose" him, we sacked him. Hindsight a great thing obviously but as you imply we would have been in a better position with him still in charge right now as a point of continuity for recruitment purposes. We may even be paying him anyway effectively. Could be one to repent at leisure so to speak.

Gutted about Kelly. Fabulous player and a unique talent, although has been rumoured to have been going back for the last 3 seasons so not really a surprise.

Re: Contract Talks & FCs Future : Wed May 20, 2020 3:50 pm
So Ratu we expected as there have been plenty of rumours regarding a return to union, obviously disapointing.

Kelly we expected, been hankering for a move back home, and widely accepted this season was his last. Another on a large salary that hopefully will now be available and is often injured although does perform when he plays

Josh Jones rumours rubbished and i really cant see any club forking out the fee needed to sign him

So bearing that in mind il stay positive rather than be dramatic.

Id welcome the Houghton rumours as if true , i think we l of definatley timed his depature correctly as hes definatley on the wind down and on a large salary. Johnstone is more than capable of stepping in, possibly with Cator as backup or rotating or a new hooker.

Hopefully Carlos will sign.

I think with the foundation of Sao, Satae, Mau, Taylor, Connor, Sneyd and Fonua plus now room for further investment using the Houghton and Kelly wages as well as Ratu's theres cause for optimism as two of our largest earners where on the wind down or picking up more and more injurys and suspensions.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Re: Contract Talks & FCs Future : Wed May 20, 2020 3:54 pm
"Room for further investment", or an opportunity to reduce the losses anticipated in 2021. Take your pick.

Bear in mind that AP said he'd "invested heavily" in building a squad for 2020, with a heavy loss likely instead.

Beat me to it. Would be amazed if we were working to anything like pre Covid recruitment parameters. I would hope the club make a transparent statement on this to contextualise the string of departures.

Could you provide more information on the projected losses?

Re: Contract Talks & FCs Future : Wed May 20, 2020 4:21 pm
Its so sad that we were not as fans able to see what a new quality coach from outside the club would have done with what was a very talented squad but one that is sadly now looking to be breaking up. I know we have the rest of this season but I can't see a new coach being brought in and anyway its going to be a strange campaign anyway. I can't see us bringing in a coach from outside the club or doing much recruitment for next year myself either, particularly after the stance we have made on a salary cap reduction. We'll always support the team whoever turns out but it's a pity we couldn't have seen what a new coach would be making of things at this stage of the original season. I'm a bit concerned about where the game is going to end up but even more about where we as a club finish up.

What! and continue to pay for failure
Apart from results he had obviously lost the confidence/respect of some important players.
I for one will be pleased to lose this club Hull culture
