For me personally after such a horrendous season even though Grix was only an interim I'd have said thanks for your efforts and parted ways. He was brought in by Smith and he has certain foibles that are very Smithesque so I'd have preferred that complete break. Maybe Cartwright has seen something in him and is prepared to give him a chance under his tutelage.
As you say if Cartwright is indeed the Coach as reported that has exacting standards and demands on his personnel then it's likely he stands up to the task or will be gone.

I think when interviewed after games most of which we were battered its hard to be upbeat and if he was hed get criticised! Was unaware of player influence in the changing room. But we dont know detail. On the face of it he hasnt done great but he has gained a lot and hopefully this will benefit Hull next season
