Long is still the best 7 in this country by far imo and thats including the current imports,
He still has pace and an eye for a gap and i don't think 9 months will take this away but for me his biggest attribute is his unpredictability,
theres many a time when he has come up with a howler but this never bothers him, five minutes later he will create something out of nothing and score or make you some points.

We have needed a scrum half for bloody ages....he has won 3 lance todd awards, endless G/Finals,a few c/cup finals,GB and england caps.......helped Sts to numerous hub caps and league victorys.....cant for the life of me see what he will offer us.

Some people are never happy.....i would sooner he be playing for us than against us.......good signing imo.

Only a few days ago on here it was 'no way' or 'we don't want him' or 'past it'

Make your minds up.

FWIW, I think he is still a very good player, but it will be interesting to see HOW good he is when he is in a team light years behind the one he came from. He never cut it in a GB or Wigan shirt.

I'll resevere judgement until I see exactly who else we sign for next season. If he has been signed at the right price and we spend cash on some real quality elsewhere in the squad, then maybe this could prove to be a decent signing.

Must admit that I was initially a little underwhelmed though.

It just goes to show your board has brainwashed you into accepting average siginings. A couple of years of poor recruitment have resulted in when you make an average signing its rejoiced. You had the opportunity to sign a top class S/H at their peak of their career admitadly would have needed to be an Aussie, but instead they took the short sighted option. I was going to say cheap but dont think Longy will come cheap. He is not excactly a signing to build a future SL winning team around is he ? I think you will get 1 half decent season out of him and you will be in the same situation this time next year

I agree with this man here and a few others who have responded with less enthusiasm.

Long is yet another player who has given his best years to another club. FC should be swigning players about to come into their own so that WE can have their best years. I'm also fed up with the phrase 'if he can stay injury free' - it seems that it's been said about most signings over the last year.

I think he is exactly what we need, an organiser who can change a game

would I have liked to him to have been younger? of course...but hopefully we will use him effectively and let Horne do all the running whilst Long organises
