I agree that it is too early, but that to me says that England had come knocking and teh board wanted to act fast to keep him. And I'm not saying people can't/shouldn't discuss it, I'm just growing tired of all the so called experts telling us about Agar being a failure. Give it till the end of the season because he hasn't done all that much wrong so far this year.

That may have something to do with he has won fook all in rugby league just a thought ...and thats before we go onto everything else like bench rotation etc :BEAT:

Re: AGAR SIGNS NEW DEAL AT HULL FC : Thu Apr 01, 2010 6:21 pm
Like everyone else I'm stunned & depressed by the news. Saw the rumour on the forum last night and assumed it was a joke. Turns out its true, god help us.

Like many on here, I can't see what he has done to warrant the extension, particularly at this stage of the season. If it all goes badly wrong in the next 4 games we've backed ourselves into a very tight corner.

Just for the record, I would like to repeat what I've been saying repeatedly in the past. Richard Agar is not & will not ever be a grade A coach and for as long as he is in charge we will continue to languish in mid table mediocrity, underachieving and watching the rest go by. We may well finish 6th this year and have a decent cup run, but Richard Agar is not the man to take us up to the next level no matter how many years he has in charge.

If I'm proven wrong then feel free to ram these comments back down my throat, but I will be amazed if that situation comes to pass. I will continue to support the team I have followed for well over 30 years (starting at the den of the enemy tomorrow) but it is support with a heavy cloud hanging over it.

We have just commited ourselves to a further 2 years of going round in circles and if Richard Agar somehow manages to see out his contract we will be no further on in our development than where we are now. To the folk out there who say he should be given time to prove himself, fine lets do that and I'll bet you any money we will still be having this argument once more in 2012 as the club ponders whether to grant him yet another 2 year contract after those tremendous seasons where we climbed to the dizzy heights of 7th and that never to be forgotten Challenge Cup run all the way to the quarter finals.

Like I said, I'm prepared to nail my colours to the mast right now and say Richard Agar will not & cannot ever lead us to the promised land. And I didn't need another 2 frustrating years of watching opportunities slip by to tell me that.

What has Nathan Brown won? What has Michael McGuire won? As for bench rotation, come on then if you're such an expert, why has his bench rotation been so bad? I'd say it's improved tenfold this year so far.

Question. If we had scraped wins against Salford and Crusaders (and lets be honest we quite easily could have done), and were currently joint top with Wigan, would people still be on here berating Agar. Personally I think people have read too much into a couple of bad results and after the last couple of years they fear the worst. We are a different team this year and I think we will bounce back in style tomorrow.

I dont agree that we are a different team, and I dont that it is the results themselves against Salford and Crusaders that are the most worrying, it is that we looked the same old side with no creativity, only play up the middle apart from the odd predictable use of the fullback as an extra pivot play, with no plan B at all when the pack is out muscled, our wingers dont touch the ball despite that been blamed last season on not having a halfback, what is the excuse now, add that to Agars embaressing favouritism towards certain players.

Im sure we will finish in a higher position this season, simply becuase we seem to be able to grind out results at home because our pack is better then last term, but the timing of the extension and the two years is simply laughable, people call it a knee jerk reaction when the coaches head is called for, but the only reason I can see him given an extension is the Saints result, when you consider that there is no evidence to suggest we can repeat that performance even with the improved playing squad, and the previous two years of dross under Agar it seems a hell of a knee jerk reaction and way to early to even consider giving him a one year extension.

I have been of that opinion for a while now. In the short to medium term there is almost no chance that we would lose our franchise as there are too many factors in our favour for that to happen. So relegation is a non starter and the income coming into the club is a nice steady little earner. Like you I don't think the board are all that bothered whether any silverware turns up or not, it just simply isn't on their agenda, hence the retention of our cheap grade B coach.

Our attack is the 4th best at the moment - we average around 25 points a game despite having pathetically failed to use the Salford/Crusaders games to bump that up. We are not great and there is room for much improvement, but not as bad as you make out as the facts themselves show.
