Like everyone else I'm stunned & depressed by the news. Saw the rumour on the forum last night and assumed it was a joke. Turns out its true, god help us.
Like many on here, I can't see what he has done to warrant the extension, particularly at this stage of the season. If it all goes badly wrong in the next 4 games we've backed ourselves into a very tight corner.
Just for the record, I would like to repeat what I've been saying repeatedly in the past. Richard Agar is not & will not ever be a grade A coach and for as long as he is in charge we will continue to languish in mid table mediocrity, underachieving and watching the rest go by. We may well finish 6th this year and have a decent cup run, but Richard Agar is not the man to take us up to the next level no matter how many years he has in charge.
If I'm proven wrong then feel free to ram these comments back down my throat, but I will be amazed if that situation comes to pass. I will continue to support the team I have followed for well over 30 years (starting at the den of the enemy tomorrow) but it is support with a heavy cloud hanging over it.
We have just commited ourselves to a further 2 years of going round in circles and if Richard Agar somehow manages to see out his contract we will be no further on in our development than where we are now. To the folk out there who say he should be given time to prove himself, fine lets do that and I'll bet you any money we will still be having this argument once more in 2012 as the club ponders whether to grant him yet another 2 year contract after those tremendous seasons where we climbed to the dizzy heights of 7th and that never to be forgotten Challenge Cup run all the way to the quarter finals.
Like I said, I'm prepared to nail my colours to the mast right now and say Richard Agar will not & cannot ever lead us to the promised land. And I didn't need another 2 frustrating years of watching opportunities slip by to tell me that.
