Westerman's handling was awful last night and there's something clearly not right with him. That said, at least he put himself in the right position to drop those passes and made 45 tackles in the evening.

Abdul, OTOH, made fewer errors but demonstrated a dismal kicking game which was supposed to be one of his strengths. Not his best game either and, like Westerman, he's capable of better.

Still - you keep telling yourself your hatred of Westy has nothing to do with his price tag if it makes you feel better.

What happened there? First 5-10 minutes it looked good, then it just went to pot and he then seemed to disappear for a long spell.

Westerman was awful. Agree with others about credit for keep trying, but also that he should have been taken off, had a mare.

Even during last night's dropsy-ridden performance he was one of the few players running good lines, hitting holes, and making busts. He may have bombed a load chances but at least he was in the right position to create them in the first place. And he put in a huge defensive stint with 45 tackles. But some can only see the bad stuff I guess.

Was his performance of the required standard? Clearly not, as he's said himself. Is he capable of the required standard? History says yes he is and a lot more also. But let's just sack him off after half an injury-blighted season and one very poor game, eh?

Fair comment. Him and Watts are still the only players I can think of to put on the shortlist for Minichiello's player of the year award, though, so it's hard to rip into him ahead of others IMO.

But the bulk of the criticism he has received for his performance on Friday has been along the lines of the summary I posted - i.e. completely OTT.

Westerman is a victim of hype, we openly said we'd paid a substantial fee and he was going to be a great addition to the side. He's proven to be another average SL playuer, problem is so has everyone else we've signed in recent memory, the best players to have moved in terms of FC have predominantly left, it's unfortunate but true.

But my post said that he deserved the criticism he received for his performance on Friday. Clearly that wouldn't involve criticism about him 'never being any good' etc. - just the criticism specifically about the game on Friday. In the same way that if he has a blinder on Wednesday (and let's hope he does - he owes the team one) then I'll be on here singing his praises about that game. I won't suddenly be praising him about Friday though.

getting selected by MacNamara for an already poor side??

I don't buy into all this "international" guff, what has he won.....nothing.

Westerman fully deserved his call up last year after being given a suitable role in the team at Hull. He's been a way off that standard this year with injury a contributing factor.
