Tony Smith and our new coach Willie Peters both stress that when signing players it is the man’s attitude and personality that needs to be considered before playing ability. Admittedly this doesn’t always prove to by an accurate assessment but yesterday showed that recently we have got it right more often than not. I could not see that FC take such important issues into consideration. May be that is why you have the same issues season after season irrespective of the changes in coaches and players. Jake Connor despite his periodic brilliance is a prime example. Yesterday the going was tough. How did he respond? With petulance, missed tackles, dropped ball and wayward passes. He is a senior player. He should be demonstrating leadership skills not behaving like a frustrated child. Some supporters want him to be captain in 2023. That is really going to drive the club forward.
Completely agree, the recruitment at FC has been a mess since Motu Tony left, latest concern is we seem to be signing utility players with no clear plan of who is playing what role.
I also think we have signed players who are just average in all areas like Mcintosh, whereas Radford favoured power over everything else. Its not clear if we are trying to be a fast, strong, off the cuff or structred team we have just averaged out and not sucesseding in any areas.
