What on Earth are you on about? What top RL teams have an opening for an assistant coach at the moment?

Long expects to learn his new trade over an extended period of time - up to 8 years according to comments on his twitter. Somewhere like Salford is an ideal first step and is no reflection whatsoever on what 'top RL teams' might or might not think about him. There's your lack of objectivity right there.

As for your second point - are you for real? For a start he doesn't post anything controversial on Twitter, and for seconds if you can't think why someone who is already in a coaching job might be a little more careful about his public profile than a player then I don't know what to say. Basing your entire opinion of someone on a book about his past and his current Twitter feed seems somewhat less than sensible to me.

What on earth are you rambling about, I never said Salford was not a good place to start, I said no chance at FC, go ramble to some-one else, or even better go watch rugby league :HAND:

Rubbish. You said that he hadn't got a gig at a 'top RL team' because they all had the same low opinion of him as you have. Nice attempt at a backtrack though. As for your last comment - pathetic. And not even original.

No wonder he is head coach of Paramatta I believe, and he coached New Zealand to the World Cup win........How can you compare Sean Long to an NRL head coach & World Cup winning coach, what do you mean Kearney wants to coach  ?

If you honestly believe the reason Long never got in a top club is because they already have people in situ you need to give your head a shake

You said you had no time for ex players wanting to be coaches. Kearney has just gone down this route so you wouldn't take him?

I never said i'd give Long the head coach job, he would have to start as an assistant just like Kearney did. So how long before an ex player becomes a coach you would employ?

So you know that no tops clubs wanted Longy as their coach? You know this? You don't, you're just guessing. I am saying the fact the top clubs already have people in these positions could be quite a big factor.

You posted one of the most ridiculous comments ever just like you do if you think you are right, and believe me you have posted a few.You used a role model professional player who went on to coach and win a world club against Sean Long who is certainly not a professional role model.
If I had to employ a 2nd (ex player) it would be some-one like Kearney,or Swainey or even Webster who had gone through their careers displaying the kind of professionalism they would expect from their players.

A few other names who keep cropping up on the 'wish list' also started on the coaching staff of their playing club IIRC. I think Brian Noble, Jason Taylor, and Steve Folkes all took that route.

Their is a common denominator in all, they were highly respected professional players.

Long has a lot to prove, he is very very lucky to get a gig in SL and not NL1 and he knows it!

Sorry, but why was he "lucky", he has played at the top level, fair enough the last two years have been a bit of a joke but that doesn't reflect on him as a player, more the club for signing him.

His presence at Salford, along with the new ground, will give them a bit of cache (I can't be bothered with the accents on the letters), that will be good for the team. Would I want him at Hull under Fubar, not a chance, would I have wanted him at Hull under Noble, not a chance, would I want him at Hull under Bennett, absolutely.

I don't think he has head coach qualities, but he may well make a very useful assistant, put it this way, if someone like Radford has a career in coaching then Long certainly has possibilities, lets not forget McBanana is GB coach and Long has forgotten more about the game that Steve ever knew.
