It's a kick in the shorts for sure, whilst clubs obviously have to look to the future and build what they deem to be a winning side, all things considered the significant expenditure albeit future tense is still expenditure, and for many they'll see that as money that could be spent on wages/players being paid in full even if it is from money from next season instead so are having their payments backdated/back-loaded.
This back payment has been done for high earners from the NRL so as to get the respective club/s under the salary cap for that year, the fallout is far too often a lot of movement/loss of personnel to compensate for that back-loaded contract payment in the following year. We ourselves have seen significant player movement on loan or simply released to allow the back loaded contract payments to take place and not push the club over the cap.

If clubs are willing to do that then it seems somewhat of snub/different strokes for different folks, if clubs are handing out significant contracts (and possible fees) yet won't offer to backdate wages after asking players to take a cut.

Give it a rest you sad man that’s 3 different boards you’ve been on moaning about other clubs spending on players you sound bitter because Leeds aren’t signing any top end players

Good news that the players (Carlos, Houghton, Lane and Shaul) have signed.

I think with the current situation that we need to retain as much of this squad as possible.

I like the words of Last about the way he wants us to play.

Hopefully that's the way we will play, as we have the players for it, no more prop driving in on the 4th tackle, 30 meters from their line.

Indeed I think big changes of playing staff currently with the current financial situation facing not only our club but the sport as a whole would be unlikely to say the least. Once things settle down and fans are allowed back in it will still take a couple of seasons for clubs and the game to start to recover financially and have confidence in its income stream again. Whether or we like it or not this is unfortunately how it will be for some time but at least we are retaining and not cutting players.

Listening to Andy Last it sounds as though he and Purtil have a completely different idea on how they see the team playing compared to Radford. Hopefully they will stick with this and get the team playing to the strengths of the individuals but also more importantly as a team.
Its very interesting to hear Andy Last mention the fact that he wants to play expansive rugby and bring in support play etc which is something most of us have been crying out for for years.
Whilst Last has only been a coach within the club he has a good track record within the club coaching the youth teams and has done his apprenticeship in the coaching ranks. With Purtil alongside him we have two good coaches and this can certainly do us no harm in giving them both a chance to show what they can do in this unprecedented season.

I do think after the first 3 of 4 games we will see whether they have not only implemented big changes in terms of play and structure but also if they can impart that on to the players in a way they understand etc.

Seems that Buchanan not been offered a deal. A real shame as I think he’s always shown up well when called upon.

Be disappointing if thats true as like you say he has shown real potential and not looked out of place when being asked to come in.

The three released are all backs.Whether thats as a result of us been heavy in the backs and some cost cutting or the club dont see them as future first team players i dont know.
Bienek is a strange one.Probably all the potential but just doesnt produce it on the field.
From snippets i hear he and his girlfriend are not happy here but when playing he doesnt seem to have the engine required for todays game and why wherever he has gone on loan he has been played off the bench and not done very big minutes playing time.
He is still young and maybe he needs to play more minutes when on the field to build his confidence and stamina.
With so many games to come in such a short period i would give him more game time on the field with our first choice forwards.
He could be good coming off the bench with Satae.

Think with Buchanan the fact he would be some way down the order may well have a bearing on things as to whether he's offered a deal, the terms of any deal etc. For me I think he would be worth a deal as he has shown up well, that said you can't keep everyone and and as good a Jack Logan was at a young age his potential never really flourished enough.

Agree with Bienek though as when you look at him he looks to have all the physical attributes for a RL forward but for some reason he just doesn't seem to be able to put that out on the field in games.
