It'll be a spoken interview and people tend to speak a little less precisely than they write. Context, intonation etc are stripped away when a journalist writes it up. Add the word 'all' to the first quote, as in 'obviously we can't announce who they
all are at present' and it tallies. Not the only way of doing it, but one of the simplest.
Remember, with Watts and Pitts that is 8 new signings by Gentle inside his first season - near enough a third of the squad. As 8 of your top 25 earners have to be club trained, it's changing about half the squad that you're free to change (I know that isn't exactly right, but just for simplicity's sake).
