Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Dont forget Saints put 22 points on us and we were deemed to be playing well
It could have been a lot worse because Saints made several handling errors in good attacking positions
So 5 drives and a kick is fine if the kick is ok.

It could have been a lot better if we hadn't made several handling errors in good attacking positions.

And conversely, it could have been a lot better if we hadn't made handling errors. Namely that we could have been 12-10 up, instead of 14-6 down

But you can't assume that low marker tackles means we miss marker tackles.

You've also got to take into account the number of sets each team defends - the more sets, the more tackles, and the more missed tackles. And, of course, the opposite is true.
All too complicated.

Anyone notice 90% of saints' sets were 5 drives and a kick? I thought that was frowned upon.

Of course, the data available is very limited, hence my use of the term "suggests that" rather than any assertion of fact.

It's frustrating there aren't any stats on the Super League website regarding completion rates. If be interested to see how we compare on those.

It would be interesting to see. I hope and expect ours would show pretty dismal completion this year, because the fixing of that with a lot of new players coming in on a full pre season is within our gift. External factors like Wigan strengthening and Saints continued excellence we can't do much about, but if we were trotting out the same squad next year and had played this one with full player availability and great completion rates that would be concerning. Every challenge is an opportunity, after all.

Presumably walk ins where the opposition winger goes in unopposed in the corner don't count t as missed tackles or wed be much worse

Lets put it this way even if we had gone 12-10 up Saints would have raised their game.Extremely professional team.Last league game of the season with nothing to play for they could have gone through the motions but no they were committed in defence and as we know ruthless in attack although riddled with uncharacteristic errors.
We made handling errors but the way we play we were unlikely to score from the field position as we are poor in the opposition 20, but its far more likely in the field position that Saints made their handling errors and given their very clinical play they would have scored.
Three more tries and better goal kicking on the day and it would have been another 40 point defeat.

… yet top of the stats table for errors.

You really must hate everything Hull FC, there is no other possible explanation for the constant criticism you dish out.
