Was it good Doc?
It certainly was. We would tune in to the BBC Home Service and listen to Henry Hall and the BBC Dance Orchestra. Mr Chamberlain would then make a broadcast telling us what a fine chap Herr Hitler was and that the likelihood of a war against Germany was nil any time in the next thousand years.
This would be followed by Sport Today in which a panel of experts would answer questions such as "Will Jimmy Hoey manage to score in each of his remaining five games?" or "Will Bodyline defeat Don Bradman?" and "Does the team think a Welsh rugby league team will ever get more than 500 supporters?" to which the reply was usually "There's more chance of Germany winning a war mate!"
