In 2010 an new wheelchair tag rugby league team - the Mersey Vikings will begin training thanks to funding sourced by 'Trust in Widnes'. The Trust have joined forces with the Steve Prescott Foundation once again,to put on a joint fund raising day involving a wheelchair challenge game sponsored by Hattons Travel, between England, the Current world champions in wheelchair tag RL - and a select Steve Prescott team of ex professional RL stars,including Steve Prescott, Gary Connolly, Paul Sculthorpe, Steve Hampson.
The Hattons Travel Challenge will be played at the Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes on Saturday 6th February from 12 noon to 5pm and will be followed by a Sportsperson's evening at the adjacent Widnes Masonic Hall. A special Christmas present package is on offer for a limited number of people - for £ 60 you will be able to play against the Steve Prescott team and get a commemorative picture to record the occasion, before getting spruced up for the 3 course meal with Guest speaker and entertainment, There will be a small donation expected to watch the challenge game between the teams. Where as tickets for the sports person's evening will be £ 30 per person. The evening will also include an auction of memorabilia and raffle. Monies raised onthe day will be split between the SP Foundation, the Mersey Vikings and the Trust Community funds.
