Listened to the game 'live' on Radio Merseyside (yes, i was bored !!) and young Hulme was 'singled out' by the commentary team as a 'great attacking full back ' but unable to catch a ball from a kick off (think he dropped 4). They were amazed he got 'man of the match' but didn't say who should have got it - any thoughts ?
Anyway very comprehensive performance. Sheffield had the opening 10 minutes, then after that, very easy, apart from the odd defensive lapse, you played a lot of 'expansive rugby'.
Thought you'd win, BUT not like that. Your pack dominated, then sounded like a lot of 'line breaks', IDEAL when there is Kevin Penny backing up.
Expecting a very tough game when we (Leigh) meet in August. I'm pleased for Vikingman, as for J20...........not sure yet !!

Danny Hulme has great off the mark speed like Jonathon Davies, and a great side step and spin.He has not had much experience in the first team, but is a wonderful talent.He can tackle fine but his catching of high balls will improve with confidence and coaching. But i feel Hulme is a stand off or a hooker. We should have won by more, and there tries came from our mistakes or from penalties.

I remember the first time i seen Danny, it was like his dad had been sent back in a time machine, his play mirrors how his dad played the game although Danny looks to be a little faster. Every time he has played for Widnes he has never let us down and is a real threat from the back, yes he had a few clangers catching from kick offs today but he'll be alright. I would have no hesitation in giving him a 3 year SL deal.

It's in his blood, he's a Widnes lad all over over and part of a great family. A super league star in the next couple of years i think.

Kurt Haggerty won it for me today for his overall game, another who should be given a SL contract.

Same for me but another good team performance.Flynn and Ropati had quieter game than usual and still did not matter.

Got to give a mention for Pickers as thought he was colossal today (and has been the past few weeks) it's always easy to label him simply 'penalty machine' but as has show in stats whenever I have seen then he is often leading the way for us in attack and defence. Puts some decent shots on and makes good hard yards. He is more than a very useful player for us!

Penny deserves a mention for 2 tries, one a fantastic solo effort. And seeing him put a shoulder charge on one of Sheffields big backs has to be worth the admission alone.

Leuluai excellent! Have said before this guy is what 20? Their is heaps of potential their, he runs in very hard and on recent performances his line running and footwork are really improving too.

Hulme is a real exciting talent one of those where when he gets the ball you can feel the anticipation rise, great try of the very good lines he runs (why he's a FB for me). Great try saver and had Bergin bot caught him on break away that would of been one of the special moments of Widnes to remember for a long time. Let himself down a little with errors, some soft others really though takes but he seems a confident lad and so shouldn't effect him.

On balance though got to go with Kurt Haggs! Worked hard in both attack and defence, kicked goals well which I'm got conditions can't be easy for a forward or any player when could do with a breather. Scored a good back towers try and his one on one snap tackle on Yere was fantastic too!

Overall too, well done all 17 lads out there!

The problem with Danny's knock ons yesterday was that we was trying to time his run onto them at fast speed, add to that the sun in his eyes and the fact that they were good kicks, i think we can put it down to inexperience coupled with high enthusiasm..

Definitely made of the same stuff as his dad.

My MOM was Penny. Keeps on improving and he's only 23 people forget this sometimes. Apart from Devlin and Blanch i have failed to be impressed with some of the wingers lately at Widnes. Penny could have got 4/5 tries today. Every breal/half break he was there to back up and support the play and his 99 metre try was fantastic. It's not common to see a lot of wingers these days with as much pace and enthusiasm as KP has. Would definately take him and Flynn to superleague no doubt about it.

Hulme played well. 2 tries, great try saving tackle and that 70 metre break where he got caught near their line was brilliant. A couple of the high balls he dropped dont forget were off very clever, tricky kick off from Sheffield which were difficult to deal with. Jack Owens has only turned 17. He has potential but that doesn't mean we have to rush him into the first team. Craven is just as solid as fullback as him imo.

Chaz and Mellor both had good games and we seem to create a lot more chances with them on the pitch.
