i think it gives the smaller teams playing against the bigger sides n the division something to play for other than just simply trying to keep the margain below 40

Good idea. It means teams have to keep going and defences of the team in the lead cannot afford to relax.

I'd like to see a bonus point for (say) 40pts scored or something.
