Caught my first glimpse of the Vikes this year tonight and was thoroughly underwhelmed. Lots of poor players in that team.

Anyway, the point of the thread is that Betts & Co need to pull their socks up and get this side fighting at the top of the table, particularly when we get a bit of Sky exposure. Why? Because if we keep shipping in 50 points to the challengers, the 'maybe' fans who are wondering whether to part with their cash for season tickets next year will think twice about going to watch us.

I know this shower will be largely departed next year, but that doesn't detract from the fact that with every setback on the pitch this year, we will lose an extra ounce of momentum bit by bit heading into our SL return.

New squad or no new squad, we'll be on a hiding to nothing if we go into 2012 on the back of a poor season. And the 7000 figure SOC is targeting will not even go close to being touched.

The season is long. Leigh will not be invincible and all three of Barrow, Widnes and Fax will pick themselves up and get back into the title race. We have time to improve. First things first, I'd drop the dead wood where possible. That means you Kirk Netherton, Tangi Ropati, Matt Gardner (sorry scapegoat) and Steve Pickersgill. Useless.

I think Pickers be better if cut out his penalties.Bring Lunt,Grady,Hecky,Alex Brown and maybe Jack Owens.Gore should get a chance aswell.Coaching and fitness is the other problem and 5yrs out of the game cant help.So Noble in now while he has no job.

The big problem is that we have 13 players on the field who must have forgotten the basics of the game once the starting whistle blew. There is no captain to lead on the field and far too much indiscipline and stupid mistakes. Points and field position are given away needlessly, and play seems predictable.

We could not even blame the referee for last night's performance.

I thought the referee did really well last night to keep the game fast and get the plays of the ball done quickly, However i feel this was suited towards leigh, Its a shame the referee's in this league cannot get some consistancy, If all refs did the same as him last night then the game would be much better to watch throughout the whole of Championship.

The funny thing for me was when the Sky cameras panned into Dennis betts, he had a completly blank look on his face, He was much more annimated in the first half and then in the second i dont think he had a clue what do to, He seemed to sit back and except the inevitable result that was to follow.

You need to get a new coach sorted ASAP and then keep him through into SL. Problem being the salary cap at this level would not allow you do get one on board yet.

Don't think the SC has a bearing on the coach, unless its a player coach

I was under the impression that it was, Hence why Matt Calland took a pay cut last year first so lead by example to some of the players, thats where i am basing my opinion from.

I think he was just contemplating leaving early to get out of that car park before it got too snarled.

Thought most took paycuts, nothing to do with SC, just less money available. Same at most Championship clubs I fear.

At Halifax the official story that changed by the minute was that they were allowed a dispensation from the lower salary cap last year as they had already signed a number of players on longer term deals and that this year they have been forced to use the £300k cap...

As you suggested, they simply didn't have the money to be able to pay the players contracts for this year despite a GF winning season.

I tend to find the reason shifts depending on whether you are accusing them of
a) not having very much money or
b) the reason they were so good last year was that they spent the most money

As far as i am aware its not confusing at all, We had a dispensation due to signing players before this rule was introduced and i believe ( dont quote me on this ) that we could operate on a SC of £400k, Now i am not here arguing about this, this is what i believe we were allowed that season and as such had to let some of the better players go or renegotiate with them, Probably the reason we let Gleeson, Shad, and maloney go, i know for a fact the Branno wanted to stay but they could not afford to keep him.

So as i say, Matt Calland took a pay cut so the Coach i presume must come under the SC.
