Why we can't be rubbish all season... : Thu Apr 07, 2011 8:39 pm
Caught my first glimpse of the Vikes this year tonight and was thoroughly underwhelmed. Lots of poor players in that team. Anyway, the point of the thread is that Betts & Co need to pull their socks up and get this side fighting at the top of the table, particularly when we get a bit of Sky exposure. Why? Because if we keep shipping in 50 points to the challengers, the 'maybe' fans who are wondering whether to part with their cash for season tickets next year will think twice about going to watch us.
I know this shower will be largely departed next year, but that doesn't detract from the fact that with every setback on the pitch this year, we will lose an extra ounce of momentum bit by bit heading into our SL return.
New squad or no new squad, we'll be on a hiding to nothing if we go into 2012 on the back of a poor season. And the 7000 figure SOC is targeting will not even go close to being touched.
THAT SAID!
The season is long. Leigh will not be invincible and all three of Barrow, Widnes and Fax will pick themselves up and get back into the title race. We have time to improve. First things first, I'd drop the dead wood where possible. That means you Kirk Netherton, Tangi Ropati, Matt Gardner (sorry scapegoat) and Steve Pickersgill. Useless.
